How to Use & Automate Fish Ponds in Society Sunlit Valley

Fish ponds are a powerful tool for maximizing your fishing output in Society Sunlit Valley. This guide will walk you through exactly how fish ponds work, how to manage them effectively, and how to automate your fish farming for passive income.

How Fish Ponds Work

When you place down a fish pond, it starts empty. To populate it, you’ll need to add fish by right-clicking them into the pond. For example, you can add coy fish to your pond.

The population grows naturally over time. When you first add a fish, the pond will contain 1 fish. Each day, the population increases by 1 until it reaches maximum capacity. If you start with a coy fish pond, it will progress from 1 out of 5, then 2 out of 5, and so on until it reaches 5 out of 5 coy fish.

Upgrading Your Fish Ponds

Once your fish pond reaches 5 out of 5 capacity, it will request additional items to upgrade. For example, a coy fish pond at 5 out of 5 will ask for 4 budding amovist items. Right-click these items into the pond to upgrade it.

After upgrading with the required items, your pond capacity increases. The upgraded coy fish pond will now hold 5 out of 7 coy fish, allowing you to harvest up to 7 fish daily once it’s fully populated again.

Removing Fish from Ponds

To remove fish from a pond, simply shift right-click on it. This will take out one fish at a time. Keep in mind that removing fish will reduce your population, and you’ll need to wait additional days for the pond to repopulate to its maximum capacity.

Harvesting Resources from Fish Ponds

Beyond the fish themselves, ponds produce valuable resources each day. You can identify when resources are ready to collect by looking for a green exclamation mark on the pond.

Right-click the pond when you see the green exclamation mark to harvest the resources. For example, a Neptune fish pond will give you Neptune row each day.

Understanding Fish-Specific Drops

Different fish produce different resources and drop rates depend on your pond population. To check what resources a particular fish produces, press U in JEI (Just Enough Items) and navigate to the fish farming section.

For Neptune fish, here are the population-based drop rates:

4+ population: 15% chance of Neptuneium nuggets

6+ population: Neptuneium drops become available

8+ population: Aqua magical dust drops become available

To reach 8+ population and unlock higher-tier drops, you’ll need to continue upgrading your pond. Each upgrade requires additional items that the pond will request when ready.

Automating Fish Ponds with Fish Baskets

Instead of manually harvesting your fish ponds every day, you can automate the process using a Fish Pond Basket.

To set up automation, place a Fish Pond Basket near your fish ponds. Insert sparks stone into the basket, and it will automatically collect resources from all nearby fish ponds.

The collected items (fish, roe, ammo fish shards, and other resources) will be deposited into a chest below the basket. This system runs passively every day, providing you with hands-free resource collection.

Conclusion

Fish ponds in Society Sunlit Valley offer a scalable farming system where you can grow your operation from basic fish collection to fully automated resource production. Start by building a few ponds with accessible fish like coy fish, gradually upgrade them as you gather materials, and eventually automate the entire process with Fish Pond Baskets. With patience and progression, your ponds will become a reliable daily income source.
