Animal Husbandry Guide – Industrial Foregoing 1.21.1
Learn how to raise, breed, and slaughter animals efficiently using Industrial Foregoing machines in Minecraft 1.21.1. This comprehensive guide covers all the essential machines and techniques you need to set up a successful animal farming operation. While this tutorial was created for version 1.21.1, the mechanics remain consistent across many versions of the mod.
Understanding Machine Basics
Most Industrial Foregoing machines operate on a similar principle. Each machine features an input or output slot and a green progress bar. When the green bar reaches the bottom, the machine performs its designated action. For example, an animal feeder will feed animals once the bar depletes completely.
All Industrial Foregoing machines include several standard control options:
Redstone Mode: Toggle whether the machine only operates when powered by redstone
Show Working Area: Displays the machine’s effective range (initially just one block)
Hide Position Particles: Removes visual particle effects from the machine
Food Input Direction: Select which sides allow food to enter the machine
Power Input: Connect power from any side—the machine automatically recognizes it
You can expand a machine’s working area by adding range upgrades, such as Range Tier Two, which significantly increases the effective radius.

Animal Feeder
The animal feeder is your first essential machine for breeding. Simply place wheat (or appropriate food for your target animal) into the feeder, and it will automatically feed and breed animals within its working area. Cows are an excellent choice for beginners.
Important: Place fences on top of the breeding area to prevent animals from escaping.

Animal Baby Separator
The animal baby separator filters animals based on age. You can configure it to move either babies or adults to an adjacent area. When placed, the side nearest to you is where animals will be moved to—plan your layout accordingly.
Most players choose to move babies into a separate holding area, allowing them to mature before processing. Once the babies grow into adults, they’re ready for the next stage of your operation.

Mob Crusher
The mob crusher is your primary slaughtering machine. It kills animals and harvests their loot drops. This machine includes an important configuration option regarding essence generation.
Essence Generation Settings
Note: In Minecraft 1.21.1, the adult filter upgrade is not yet implemented. Plan your separation strategy accordingly to avoid crushing baby animals prematurely.
You have two operational modes:
With Essence Generation (Enabled): The machine produces mob essence as a liquid output while still generating loot drops and experience essence
Without Essence Generation (Disabled): The machine consumes essence internally to increase looting chance on harvested items, sacrificing liquid essence production for better drops
Choose the mode that best suits your needs—essence liquid production or improved loot quality.

Animal Rancher
The animal rancher handles secondary animal products like milk and wool. It features both fluid output (for milk) and item output (for wool and similar materials). Like other machines, you can expand its working area with range upgrades and improve efficiency with efficiency upgrades.
This machine is essential if you want to automate milk and wool production without killing your animals.

Mob Slaughter Factory
The mob slaughter factory offers an alternative to the mob crusher. While it doesn’t produce traditional loot drops, it converts slaughtered animals into two valuable products: liquid meat and pink slime.
Liquid Meat Uses
Process through a dissolution chamber to create mechanical dirt and other items
Feed into a mycelial generator to produce power (combined with ingots)
Use in ore processing to create raw ore meat and fermented ore meat
Pink Slime Uses
Pink slime is a highly valuable byproduct. It can be processed in a dissolution chamber to create numerous advanced items and materials. Many Industrial Foregoing recipes require pink slime as a key ingredient.
Use the mob slaughter factory when you prioritize pink slime and liquid meat production over traditional loot harvesting.

Sewer
The sewer is a passive collection machine placed beneath your animals. It periodically collects sewage from animals without harming them. This sewage can be pumped into a sewage composter, which automatically converts it into fertilizer.
Fertilizer is particularly useful for automated crop farms. Additionally, if any animals die above the sewer, it will also collect essence, making it a versatile component of your operation.

Complete Animal Husbandry Workflow
Here’s a complete animal farming setup:
Breeding: Use the animal feeder to breed animals in a contained area
Separation: Use the animal baby separator to move babies into a maturation area
Secondary Products: Use the animal rancher to collect milk and wool from mature animals
Processing: Send mature animals to either the mob crusher (for loot) or mob slaughter factory (for pink slime and liquid meat)
Waste Management: Place a sewer beneath your animals to collect sewage and convert it to fertilizer
Summary
Industrial Foregoing provides a complete suite of automation tools for animal husbandry. By combining the animal feeder, baby separator, animal rancher, mob crusher or slaughter factory, and sewer, you can create a fully automated farm that produces loot, essence, pink slime, liquid meat, and fertilizer. Remember to customize each machine’s settings and working area to match your specific farm layout and production goals.
