Windmill Full Tutorial – Immersive Engineering
Windmill Full Tutorial – Immersive Engineering
Learn how to build and operate windmills in the Immersive Engineering mod to generate renewable power for your Minecraft world. This guide covers everything from basic placement to optimizing your windmill setup with sails and energy storage.
Understanding Windmill Power Generation
The windmill in Immersive Engineering is a renewable energy source that converts wind into electrical power. A key principle to understand is that windmill efficiency depends on two factors: placement height and wind strength. The higher you place your windmill, and the stronger the wind conditions in your area, the faster it will rotate and the more power it will generate.
Setting Up Your Kinetic Dynamo
To actually accumulate the power generated by your windmill, you’ll need to use a kinetic dynamo. This device converts the rotational energy from your windmill into usable electrical energy.
The orientation of the kinetic dynamo is crucial. The large black hole on the front face should point directly toward your windmill to receive the rotational input. For energy output, you have two options: use the back of the dynamo (marked with a small dot) or the top face to connect your power distribution system.

Crafting and Placing Your First Windmill
A basic windmill requires only two components: an iron ingot and windmill blades made from treated wood. Once you have these materials, simply right-click on the front of your kinetic dynamo to place the windmill. It will automatically begin rotating and generating power immediately.

However, the basic windmill configuration is limited in power output. To significantly improve performance, you’ll want to upgrade it with windmill sails.
Upgrading with Windmill Sails
Crafting Windmill Sails
Windmill sails are crafted using tough fabric and industrial hemp fiber. Industrial hemp fiber is created from industrial hemp seeds, which you can obtain by right-clicking grass blocks throughout your world.

Installing Sails on Your Windmill
Once you’ve crafted your windmill sails, installation is straightforward. Simply right-click the sails onto your existing windmill, and the mod will automatically fill all four sail positions. You’ll immediately notice a dramatic increase in rotation speed and power generation when the sails are installed.

Connecting Power Distribution
Using LV Wire Coils
To transport the power generated by your windmill to where you need it, use LV (Low Voltage) wire coils. Right-click the kinetic dynamo with an LV wire coil to establish a connection point for your power network.

Setting Up an LV Accumulator
An LV accumulator serves as the battery system for Immersive Engineering, storing the electrical power generated by your windmill for later use. Place an LV accumulator near your kinetic dynamo, then right-click it with an LV wire coil to connect them. The power will automatically begin accumulating in the battery, providing you with a reliable power reserve.

Summary
Building a windmill power system in Immersive Engineering is a straightforward process that provides automated, renewable energy generation. Start with a basic windmill and kinetic dynamo setup, upgrade with windmill sails for better efficiency, and connect your system to an LV accumulator for energy storage. With proper placement and optimization, your windmill will provide consistent green power to fuel all your modded machinery.
