How to Make Steel in Immersive Engineering

Steel is one of the essential materials in Immersive Engineering, and crafting it is easier than you might think. This guide will walk you through the process of creating steel using a crude blast furnace, as well as how to upgrade to an improved blast furnace for better efficiency.

Building the Crude Blast Furnace

The first step in making steel is constructing a crude blast furnace. To build this structure, you’ll need blast bricks arranged in a 3x3x3 formation. Start by placing blast bricks in a pattern of 1, 2, 3 on the first layer, then repeat this pattern for the second and third layers. Once you have your 3x3x3 blast brick structure complete, you’ll need to place 2 additional blast bricks on top to finish the structure.

Activating Your Blast Furnace

After constructing your crude blast furnace, right-click the center of the 3x3x3 structure with an Engineer’s Hammer. A small hole will appear on the structure. Right-click this hole to access the blast furnace’s inventory.

Loading Materials and Creating Steel

Now that your blast furnace is active and accessible, it’s time to add materials. The blast furnace requires two inputs:

Coal coke in the bottom slot

Iron ingots in the top slot on the left-hand side

Once both materials are loaded, the blast furnace will process them and convert them into steel ingots. This is the basic method for steel production in Immersive Engineering.

Upgrading to the Improved Blast Furnace

For increased efficiency, you can upgrade to an improved blast furnace. This advanced version uses a 3x3x3 structure, but instead of regular blast bricks, it uses reinforced blast bricks. Reinforced blast bricks are crafted by combining regular blast bricks with steel plates—which you can make from the steel ingots produced by your crude blast furnace.

Automating Your Improved Blast Furnace

The improved blast furnace offers several enhancements for automation. You can add hoppers to the top for automated input, attach pre-heaters to the sides to improve efficiency, and set up a complete automated system to streamline your steel production.
