How to Make Steam In Modern Industrialization

How to Make Steam in Modern Industrialization

This guide will walk you through the process of creating steam in the Modern Industrialization mod. Whether you’re playing on version 1.21 or another version, these methods will help you get steam production up and running. Steam is essential for powering many machines in the mod, so mastering this early-game process is crucial for progression.

What You Need: The Bronze Boiler

The primary tool for steam production is the bronze boiler. This machine is responsible for boiling water to create steam. To craft a bronze boiler, you’ll need:

Bronze tanks

Bronze plates

Bronze plates are crafted in the forechammer, which is one of the earliest machines you’ll encounter in Modern Industrialization. The forechammer allows you to process raw materials like iron ore, copper ingots, and other items.

Making Bronze Plates and Ingots

To create bronze plates, you first need bronze ingots. These are smelted from bronze dust. Bronze dust is made by combining:

Copper dust

Tin dust

Both copper dust and tin dust can be created in the forechammer. Once you have bronze ingots, return to the forechammer to craft your bronze plates.

Setting Up Your Bronze Boiler

Place down your bronze boiler and prepare it for operation. The boiler requires two essential inputs:

Water Input

You can manually add water to the boiler using water buckets. Simply left-click the bucket on the boiler to fill it. Each bucket adds to the water level inside.

Fuel Input

Add solid fuel to the left side of the boiler. Coal works well for this purpose. As you add fuel, the temperature will begin to rise. The boiler needs to heat water to its boiling point to produce steam.

Once the temperature reaches the boiling point, the boiler will begin producing steam automatically.

Automated Steam Production

Using the Bronze Water Pump

For a more automated setup, you can use a bronze water pump similar in construction to the bronze boiler. The water pump works by pumping water blocks horizontally from its position. However, it requires steam to operate, which creates a chicken-and-egg scenario for new players.

Bootstrap Steam with a Furnace

To get your first steam for the automated system, use a regular furnace:

Place a water bucket in the furnace

Burn coal in the furnace

The water will heat up and convert to a steam bucket

You can then use this steam bucket in your bronze water pump to begin automated water pumping into your bronze boiler for continuous steam production.

Extracting and Using Steam

Connecting with Fluid Pipes

To transfer steam from your boiler to machines, you’ll need fluid pipes from Modern Industrialization. Connect pipes by right-clicking them on adjacent sides of your boiler and target machine.

Configuring Fluid Direction

Each fluid pipe connection must be configured to either extract or insert fluids:

Shift and click on the boiler side to open the pipe configuration

Right-click to access the whitelist/blacklist options

Set the boiler-side pipe to extract only

Set the machine-side pipe to insert only

Using the Wrench

A wrench can be used to adjust pipe orientation and break connections. Right-click with the wrench to rotate pipes, and shift-right-click to remove them entirely.

Summary

You now have everything you need to produce steam in Modern Industrialization. Start with a bronze boiler and manual water input, fuel it with coal, and once you reach boiling point, you’ll have steam. As you progress, set up automated systems using bronze water pumps and fluid pipes to power your machines. Remember, you can bootstrap your first steam using a regular furnace if you’re starting from scratch.
