MineColonies Tavern Complete Tutorial
The Tavern is one of the first buildings you’ll want to construct in MineColonies to house your residents. This guide covers everything you need to know about building, upgrading, and managing a Tavern, including bed capacity, recruitment mechanics, and how it fits into your early-game colony strategy.
What is the Tavern?
The Tavern is a residential building in MineColonies designed to accommodate your colony’s citizens. Unlike most other buildings, you can only have one Tavern per colony. It serves as both a living space and a recruitment hub where you can meet potential residents before inviting them to join your settlement.
Tavern Levels and Bed Capacity
The Tavern has three upgrade levels, each with increasing size and bed capacity:
Level 1 Tavern: 3 beds (houses 3 citizens)
Level 2 Tavern: 4 beds (houses 4 citizens)
Level 3 Tavern: 5 beds (houses 4 citizens)

The Tavern maxes out at level 3 rather than level 5 like other buildings. Each level has a noticeably more elaborate design, with level 3 being particularly grand and impressive.
Understanding Double Beds
When examining the Tavern’s interior, you’ll notice some beds are double-sized. It’s important to note that a double bed counts as sleeping space for two individual citizens, not one. For example, if you see two double beds in a room, that represents 4 citizen slots total.

Recruiting Residents at the Tavern
One of the Tavern’s primary functions is as a recruitment center. When you enter the Tavern, you’ll see visitors wandering around—these are not yet citizens of your colony. You can identify them by the icons displayed above their heads. By right-clicking on any visitor, you can view their citizen statistics and recruit them to join your colony.

Each recruit has an associated cost. For example, you might recruit someone for two diamond swords. Before committing to recruitment, examine their stats carefully—you want citizens with the best attributes suited to the roles you need filled in your colony.

Housing Requirements
Citizens can only move into your colony if you have available housing. This housing comes in two forms:
Residences (standalone houses)
Beds in the Tavern
If you don’t have enough housing slots, newly recruited citizens won’t be able to settle in your colony. The Tavern is especially useful in early-game when you haven’t yet built a network of residential homes.
Managing the Tavern Workstation
The Tavern workstation is located behind the bar. From this interface, you can:

View Assigned Citizens
The workstation displays how many citizens are currently sleeping in the Tavern and lists their names. For example, you might see “4 out of 4” if the Tavern is at full capacity.

Manage Housing Assignments
You can assign or unassign specific citizens to live in the Tavern, giving you control over who sleeps where in your colony.

Build Options
The build options menu allows you to:
Repair the Tavern (assigns a Builder to handle repairs)
Upgrade the Tavern if it hasn’t reached level 3 yet
Recall citizens living in the Tavern to the workstation
Access citizen inventory

The Tavern Interior Layout
A level 3 Tavern features multiple rooms connected by stairs, each containing beds strategically placed throughout the building. Some beds may have balconies or other decorative features depending on the Tavern’s level. The interior design becomes increasingly elaborate as you upgrade from level 1 to level 3.

Early Game Strategy
The Tavern is particularly valuable in the early stages of your colony. When you’re just starting out and don’t have many residential buildings, the Tavern provides crucial housing for up to 4 citizens. This allows you to build a workforce before constructing a full neighborhood of houses. As your colony grows and you build more residences, the Tavern becomes less essential but remains a useful building for housing additional citizens if needed.
Summary
The Tavern is a unique, single-per-colony building that serves dual purposes: housing residents and recruiting new citizens. With a maximum capacity of 4 citizens across its three upgrade levels, it’s an excellent early-game solution for residential needs. Understanding its mechanics—from bed capacity to recruitment and management—will help you build an efficient and thriving MineColonies settlement.
