Minecolonies University & Research Guide

Minecolonies University & Research Guide

The University is one of the most fascinating buildings in Minecolonies, offering a deep system of research that unlocks new features and significantly improves your colony’s efficiency. This guide will walk you through how to use the University, what research options are available, and how to optimize your researcher citizens to maximize your research output.

Understanding the University Building

The University is a key building in Minecolonies where you can conduct research to unlock new features and enhance existing buildings. As you upgrade the University to higher levels, it becomes significantly larger and more powerful. At Level 2 and beyond, the University gains the ability to conduct multiple research projects simultaneously.

When you enter the University interface, you’ll find tabs organized by research category: Civilian, Combat, and Technology. Each category contains multiple research options that provide different benefits to your colony.

How Research Works

To begin research, navigate to your desired research category and select a project. Each research project requires specific resources to be placed in the University’s inventory. For example, researching Flower Power costs 64 Compost and requires a Compostous Heart at least Level 3.

Once you’ve selected research and provided the necessary resources, you must employ researchers at the University to actually conduct the work. The number of simultaneous research projects you can undertake depends on your University’s level. A Level 2 University, for instance, can conduct 1 research project at a time, but higher levels unlock additional research slots.

Researcher Skills and Offline Research

Key Researcher Stats

When hiring researchers for your University, focus on two critical skills:

Knowledge Skill: Affects research time while offline. A higher knowledge skill increases the amount of research time your researchers gain when you’re not playing.

Mana Skill: Affects the maximum amount of research time researchers can accumulate in a single day. This caps how much offline research they can contribute.

It’s important to note that the Knowledge skill doesn’t provide a one-to-one ratio boost to offline research time—it’s a more nuanced system. However, researchers with high Knowledge and Mana skills will significantly speed up your research progression, especially when offline.

Unlocking Offline Research

Offline research becomes available once you upgrade your University to Level 3. This is a game-changing feature that allows your researchers to continue working on projects even when you’re not actively playing Minecraft. Your researchers will use this offline time to advance research, with their Knowledge skill determining how much progress they make.

Available Research Categories

Technology Research

The Technology tree contains improvements for your production buildings. Some notable Technology researches include:

Flower Power: Unlocks the Flower Shop building

Better Beekeeping: Allows Beekeepers to harvest both Honey Bottles and Combs simultaneously

Additional Fields: Plantations can unlock an additional field for crops

Compostor Efficiency: Compostors can process more materials

Miner Immunity: Miners gain Fire and Lava immunity

Building Stock Capacity: Buildings can maintain 50% more minimum stock

Worker Recipe Learning: Workers can learn 25% more recipes

Combat Research

The Combat tree focuses on enhancing your guards and military capabilities:

Guard Durability: Increases the durability and toughness of your guards

Archer Armor: Archers gain additional armor and protection

Various other combat enhancements for your defensive units

Civilian Research

The Civilian category contains a massive array of quality-of-life improvements and efficiency boosts for your general colony population. This tree is extensive and includes improvements affecting multiple aspects of your colony’s daily operations.

Summary

The University is a cornerstone building in Minecolonies that should be a priority in your colony’s development. By upgrading it to higher levels, you unlock more simultaneous research slots and eventually access to valuable offline research. Hiring researchers with high Knowledge and Mana skills will maximize your research output. With hundreds of research options spanning Technology, Combat, and Civilian categories, the University provides endless opportunities to improve and optimize every aspect of your colony.
