How to Feed Citizens in MineColonies
Keeping your citizens well-fed is essential for maintaining a thriving colony in MineColonies. This guide walks you through the process of setting up an automated food system, from producing raw ingredients to cooking meals at your restaurant. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to optimize your colony’s food production, we’ll cover everything you need to know.
Getting Started with Food Production
The first step in feeding your citizens is obtaining raw food. You have two primary options: farms or animal husbandry. You can set up a farm to grow crops automatically, or you can raise livestock like pigs and chickens to produce meat. Both methods require dedicated worker buildings with their own tutorials, but either approach will give you the raw ingredients you need to feed your colony.
Understanding the Restaurant Building
The Restaurant is the central hub for feeding your citizens. When you hire a Cook at the Restaurant, they will prepare meals that citizens can consume directly. Citizens will naturally visit the Restaurant when they’re hungry and will eat the food that’s available there.

Setting Up Your Cook
Once you’ve hired a Cook at the Restaurant, they will handle food preparation for you. The Cook will request specific items through open requests:
Coal (for fuel)
Bread dough
Bread
Potatoes
The Cook uses these ingredients to prepare meals. For example, they will cook potatoes with coal in the furnace to create baked potatoes, which citizens can then eat.

Configuring the Restaurant Menu
You can customize what your Cook prepares by accessing the Restaurant’s item menu. Here, you can select which foods to serve. You have two fuel options available:
Coal
Charcoal
A simple setup would be to add bread and baked potatoes to the menu. With just these two items, you can give the Cook potatoes and bread, and they will automatically cook them into meals for your citizens.

Advanced Food Production: The Bakery
For more sophisticated meal options, consider building a Bakery. The Bakery can craft many advanced recipes and automatically generates a crafting recipe list. Any items produced by the Bakery can be transferred to the Restaurant by a Courier, or you can manually transport them.

The Bakery and Cookery buildings provide ingredients for many of the more complex meals that the Restaurant Cook can prepare, allowing you to create a diverse and nutritious menu for your colony.

Quick Setup Guide
Here’s the fastest way to get your citizens fed:
Build a Restaurant building
Hire a Cook at the Restaurant
Access the Restaurant menu and add simple foods like bread and baked potatoes
Manually provide the Cook with raw ingredients (potatoes, bread, coal)
Citizens will automatically visit the Restaurant when hungry
You don’t need to set up elaborate farms or additional buildings to start—a basic Restaurant with a Cook is enough to keep your colony fed.

Summary
Feeding your citizens in MineColonies is straightforward once you understand the Restaurant system. Build a Restaurant, hire a Cook, add food items to the menu, and supply raw ingredients. Your Cook will handle the rest, preparing meals automatically for your hungry colonists. As your colony grows, you can expand your food production with Bakeries, Cookeries, and dedicated farms to create a more automated and diverse food supply.
