Useful Hats Mod Tutorial

Useful Hats Mod Guide: Every Hat Explained

The Useful Hats mod is a small but surprisingly powerful Minecraft mod that adds a collection of unique helmets, each granting special abilities, buffs, and enchantment bonuses. Whether you want to breathe underwater, jump higher, chop wood faster, or avoid hostile mobs entirely, there’s a hat for you. This guide covers every hat in the mod, including crafting ingredients, abilities, and enchantment stacking potential.

All Hats in the Useful Hats Mod

Aqua-Nought Hat

The Aqua-Nought Hat is crafted from a turtle shell combined with additional turtle materials. Wearing it grants the Conduit Power effect for 60 seconds, making it excellent for underwater exploration and combat. Be aware that it significantly affects your visibility while equipped. You can apply the Respiration enchantment up to four times to extend its underwater breathing benefits.

Bunny Ears

The Bunny Ears hat is crafted using rabbit hide and carrots. Equipping them gives you a significant jump boost and allows you to eat food faster. You can apply the Efficiency enchantment up to seven times to this hat, maximising both its speed-eating and movement benefits.

Chopping Hat

The Chopping Hat is crafted purely from rabbit hide. It provides a 20% increase in efficiency when using an axe. Adding the Efficiency enchantment pushes this bonus all the way up to 150%. It also stacks with other relevant enchantments and potions, making it a strong choice for woodcutting builds.

Ender Helmet

The Ender Helmet is crafted from Ender Pearls — probably not the most comfortable thing to wear in the rain. To use it, hold the helmet in your hand and sneak + right-click to set a saved teleport destination. Once the helmet is on your head, you can throw an Ender Pearl to teleport directly to that saved position. This is especially useful for quickly returning to a base or safe location. There does not appear to be a confirmed distance limit for this ability.

Halo

The Halo is one of the more expensive hats to craft, requiring a Nether Star. Its powerful effect causes all mobs except bosses to ignore you completely. However, there is a major caveat: in the Nether, the effect is completely reversed — every mob will aggressively target you. Use this hat with caution when visiting the Nether.

Lucky Hat

The Lucky Hat grants a Luck effect while holding an axe or fishing rod, improving loot drops and fishing rewards. The trade-off is that after fishing or killing a mob, you receive a Bad Luck effect for 10 seconds. Despite this downside, it is particularly useful when fighting bosses or other high-value enemies where the initial luck boost matters most.

Mining Hat

The Mining Hat is crafted from a specific set of mining-related materials. It makes mining with a pickaxe 20% faster and can be stacked with enchantments and potions to reach up to 150% efficiency with something like the Efficiency enchantment. As an added bonus, while holding a pickaxe, the hat grants a Night Vision effect in dark areas. If the Lucent mod is also installed (version 1.19 or later), the Night Vision effect is replaced by the superior Lucent light effect.

Mushroom Hat

The Mushroom Hat functions as a wearable food source. When you are hungry, your character will automatically take a bite out of the hat to restore hunger. The mushroom material appears to deplete over time as it is consumed.

Postman Hat

The Postman Hat grants a Speed effect while sprinting, but comes with the drawback of also triggering a Hunger effect at the same time. Applying the Efficiency enchantment can push the speed bonus up to Speed 6, making this one of the fastest movement options in the mod.

Shulker Helmet

The Shulker Helmet grants the Levitation effect while worn. As with several other hats in this mod, adding the Efficiency enchantment scales the effect up to Levitation 6.

Stocking Hat

The Stocking Hat appears to be a purely cosmetic, seasonal item designed as a Christmas-themed decoration for the month of December. It does not appear to offer any gameplay ability.

Straw Hat

The Straw Hat increases the speed of digging with a shovel or mining with a hoe. Like the Chopping Hat and Mining Hat, it scales up to 150% efficiency and stacks with compatible enchantments and potions.

Wing Helmet

The Wing Helmet grants the Slow Falling effect while you are falling, making it a handy safety tool for high-altitude builds or exploration. There is one important warning: if a monster frightens the helmet (based on in-mod behaviour), the helmet will fly off your head and land on the ground nearby. Keep an eye on it so you don’t lose it during combat.

Summary

The Useful Hats mod adds a diverse range of helmets to Minecraft, each tailored to a different playstyle — from underwater exploration and fast travel to farming, mining, and mob avoidance. Most hats support enchantment stacking (particularly Efficiency) to push their bonuses to impressive levels. Whether you’re a builder, explorer, or fighter, there’s at least one hat here worth adding to your loadout. Install the mod, craft a few hats, and experiment to find your favourite combination.
