Tech Reborn Steel & Blast Furnace Tutorial: Complete Guide to Medium Tier

Once you’ve progressed through the low voltage tier of Tech Reborn, it’s time to advance to the medium tier. The industrial blast furnace is your first major step forward—a multi-block machine that opens up steel production and unlocks numerous other crafting possibilities. This guide will walk you through building all three tiers of the industrial blast furnace and mastering steel production.

Introduction to the Industrial Blast Furnace

The industrial blast furnace is your first multi-block machine in Tech Reborn’s medium tier. This powerful device requires both heat and power to operate, making it essential for producing steel and melting down valuable items. Understanding how to build and optimize it is crucial for progression.

Building Your Industrial Blast Furnace

The Three Tier Variants

You can construct an industrial blast furnace using three different machine casing types: standard machine casings, advanced machine casings, or industrial machine casings. All three variants function identically—the choice depends on your current resources and progression goals. This guide demonstrates the industrial variant, but the build process remains the same for all three.

Standard Tier Construction

The standard industrial blast furnace requires the following components:

Advanced circuits

Copper-nickel heating coils (crafted in the rolling machine)

Standard machine casings (made with refined iron, electronic circuits, and basic machine frames)

Multi-Block Assembly

When you place down an incomplete industrial blast furnace, it will display “Incomplete Multi Block” as a message. Press the age key to toggle the multi-block hologram—this visual overlay shows you exactly where each piece needs to be placed.

The assembly pattern is straightforward: create a 3×3 base structure on the ground, then build upward three blocks high, filling the entire outer shell. This creates the multi-block structure you need.

Heat Generation

Once your structure is complete and you add the lid, the furnace will display its current heat level. The standard tier starts with 1,360 heat by default. To increase efficiency, place buckets of lava inside the multi-block before closing the lid. This adds an additional +500 heat, bringing your total to 1,860 heat.

Including lava buckets is highly recommended, as it provides extra heating capacity without requiring additional infrastructure.

Power Connection

The industrial blast furnace requires a power connection to operate. Attach your power cable directly to the control hatch—the front-facing piece of the multi-block structure. Once connected and receiving power, your furnace is fully operational.

Advanced and Industrial Tier Upgrades

Advanced Tier Requirements

You don’t need to start from scratch to reach the advanced tier. Instead, you can upgrade your existing standard machine casing to advanced by adding steel plates. Steel plates are simply created using a compressor.

Industrial Tier Requirements

The industrial tier machine casing requires more sophisticated materials:

Chromium plates

Data storage cores

Peridot plates

Chromium ingots require a blast furnace with 1,700 heat to produce. Your standard tier furnace reaches 1,860 heat, so you can actually make chromium directly in your base-tier furnace if needed. Chromium dust is created by electrolyzing ruby dust in an electrolyzer, yielding chromium dust, aluminum, and compressed air cells in 25 seconds. You can also obtain small piles of chromium dust from scrap boxes.

Once you have chromium dust, place it in the blast furnace (it cannot be processed in a standard furnace) to create chromium ingots.

Peridot dust is obtained by grinding peridot ore. The dust can be directly compressed into peridot plates without needing to create ingots first.

Upgrade Path Recommendation

The most efficient progression path is:

Build the standard tier industrial blast furnace

Upgrade it to advanced by adding steel plates

Upgrade the advanced version to industrial by adding chromium and other industrial materials

While you can technically create an industrial machine frame and build directly to the industrial tier without upgrading, this route requires titanium—a significantly more time-consuming process. We strongly recommend following the upgrade path instead.

Steel Production: Your Primary Use Case

Steel Crafting Recipe

Making steel is the primary purpose of the industrial blast furnace. Each steel ingot requires:

2 carbon cells

1 refined iron ingot

Heat requirement: 1,000 heat

The output is one steel ingot and your empty cells are returned to you.

Obtaining Carbon Cells

You likely already have refined iron from earlier progression. Carbon cells are the key ingredient you need to source. Multiple crafting methods exist, but the most straightforward approach uses rubber logs in a centrifuge. This process yields:

Sap

Methane (useful for later medium voltage tier crafting)

Carbon cells

Additional Melting Capabilities

Beyond steel production, the industrial blast furnace can melt down items at 1,000 heat. For example, you can melt iron horse armor along with sand to yield four iron ingots and some dark ashes. This feature is particularly valuable when you’re adventuring and want to recycle unwanted tools and equipment into useful resources.

Summary

The industrial blast furnace is a cornerstone machine for Tech Reborn’s medium tier. By starting with a standard-tier build and progressively upgrading to advanced and industrial variants, you unlock efficient steel production and item melting capabilities. Remember to include lava buckets for optimal heat generation, and follow the recommended upgrade path rather than attempting to build the industrial tier directly. With this machine operational, you’ll have the steel production capacity needed to progress further into the mod.
