Goety Summoning Guide – How to Summon and Manage Servants

One of the most exciting features of the Goety mod is its deep summoning system. From loyal war bears you can ride into battle, to undead servants and spectral wolves, there is a huge variety of creatures you can call to your side. This guide walks you through everything you need to know — how to summon servants, how to manage them, and how to kit yourself out with the right gear to get the most from your summons.

Finding the Summons Chapter in Your Black Book

All summoning information lives inside your Black Book. Open it up and navigate to the chapter called Summons. Here you will find a full list of available servants, including doppelgangers, black wolves, haunted skulls, ice columns, vexes, zombies, and many more. Servants broadly fall into two categories: wild summons (such as black wolves and bears) and undead/skeletal summons (such as zombies and vexes).

How to Obtain Servants

There are two main ways to summon servants in Goety:

Rituals – Performing a summoning ritual at your altar.

Focuses – Using a specific focus item with your wand or staff.

Servants summoned through rituals will persist indefinitely — they have no limited lifespan. Servants summoned via a focus, however, will only last for a limited time before disappearing.

General Servant Attributes

All summoned servants share a set of core behaviours and rules you should know before building your army:

They will attack all hostile creatures automatically.

Servants that share the same summoner will not attack each other.

Servants summoned via a focus have a limited lifespan.

If the summoner wears an associated crown, servants can use their summoner’s soul energy to heal themselves and will be protected from fire.

If the summoner wears an associated robe (or, for undead servants, the Necro Cape), servants gain additional benefits.

Undead servants will burn in sunlight unless they are wearing a helmet.

Servants can teleport to their summoner if the summoner has the correct focus equipped and casts a spell while crouching.

Hitting a non-vex servant with a wand or staff will toggle their behaviour between following you, wandering the area, or staying put.

Summoning a Bear Servant – A Step-by-Step Example

The bear servant is a great first summon to try. It is loyal, aggressive, and can even be used as a mount — no saddle required. To summon one using a focus, you will need a Mauling Focus. Here is how the crafting chain works:

Craft a Hunger Call using the animation ritual.

Use the Hunger Call to craft a Hunting Focus.

Use the Hunting Focus to craft a Mauling Focus.

Once you have your Mauling Focus equipped on your wand, hold Shift to summon the bear servant in front of you rather than behind you. The Black Book entry for the Mauling Focus will also display its spell type — in this case, Wild. Remember this, as it becomes important when selecting your gear.

Healing and Variants of the Bear Servant

Once your bear is summoned, you can right-click it with a fish to heal it. There is also a more powerful variant — the Polar Bear Servant. You can obtain one in two ways:

Use your Mauling Focus with a Frost Staff equipped — this will summon a polar bear instead of a normal bear.

Perform a conversion ritual at your altar with a polar bear nearby, similar to how mushrooms can be converted.

The Frost Staff also empowers all frost spells in general, making it a versatile tool beyond just summoning variants.

Crowns – Keeping Your Servants Alive Permanently

Certain crowns will make your summoned servants persist indefinitely, removing the limited lifespan applied when summoning via a focus. Each crown corresponds to a specific spell type:

Wild Crown – Wild servants will persist. Also halves casting time for wild spells.

Frost Crown – Frost servants will persist.

Abyss Crown – Water servants will persist.

Never Crown – Never servants will persist.

Necro Crown – Necro servants will persist.

Nameless Crown – Halves casting time for all spells, and undead servants will persist.

Since the bear servant has the spell type Wild, equipping the Wild Crown will make your bear permanent. Some crowns require Forbidden Pieces to craft — these can be obtained through rituals covered in the crafting section of the mod.

Robes – Boosting Your Summoning Power

In addition to crowns, several robes provide meaningful bonuses that complement your summoning playstyle. Search for Robe in the Black Book to see all available options. Notable robes include:

Witch Hat – Speeds up witch robes in a brewing stand and slowly grants fuel in moonlight. Also provides a 10% chance of not consuming a potion after drinking it.

Dark Robe – Reduces the soul cost of all spells by 15%.

Grand Robe – Halves incoming damage when casting with a wand or staff, and reduces the cost of all spells.

Wind Robe – Provides full damage at the cost of soul energy.

Necro Cape – Required for undead servants to gain summoner-related bonuses.

Choosing the right robe depends on how you play — whether you want to reduce spell costs, protect yourself while casting, or empower a specific servant type.

Changing Servant Behaviour with Your Wand

Once a servant is active, you can control its behaviour directly. Simply hit the servant with your wand or staff to cycle through three modes: following you, wandering the area, or staying in place. This works on all servants except vexes.

Tips for Finding the Right Servant

With so many servants available in Goety, the best approach is to browse through the Summons chapter of your Black Book and click on the individual entry for any servant that catches your eye. Each entry tells you:

What focus or ritual is needed to summon it.

Its spell type (important for choosing your crown).

Any special interactions (such as feeding fish to the bear to heal it).

Whether variants exist and how to obtain them.

If you are looking for a permanent companion, always check whether a summoning ritual exists for that servant — ritual-summoned servants have no lifespan limit, even without a crown.
