MineColonies Bakery, Cookery & Restaurant Guide
MineColonies Bakery, Cookery & Restaurant Guide
Feeding your citizens is one of the most essential tasks in MineColonies. Whether you’re raising pigs, chickens, or cows, or growing wheat and other crops, you’ll need to process your produce into food. This guide covers the three key food production buildings: the cookery, bakery, and restaurant, along with how to set them up effectively to keep your colonists happy and well-fed.
The Three Essential Food Buildings
To establish a functional food production system in MineColonies, you’ll need three main buildings:
Cookery — Level 1 building for basic food crafting
Bakery — For bread and baked goods production
Restaurant — Where citizens gather to eat the prepared food
The courier and warehouse play a critical supporting role, automatically transporting seeds, produce, and finished goods between your farm, processing buildings, and restaurant. This passive logistics system ensures your food production runs smoothly without manual intervention.
How the Courier and Warehouse System Works
Your farmer’s hut produces wheat and other crops. The courier automatically picks up this produce and delivers it to your warehouse. From there, the courier transports the raw materials to the bakery for processing.
This system is passive and automatic—once set up, it requires no player interaction. Having a dedicated courier is ideal for keeping materials flowing through your food production chain.
The Bakery: Recipes and Crafting
Accessing Bakery Crafting Recipes
When you open a bakery workstation, you’ll see the bakery inventory, which contains materials like coal, large bottles, and wheat.

Understanding Crafting Recipes
Navigate to the “Crafting Recipes” section to see what your bakery can produce. The bakery comes with several recipes already unlocked by default. The higher the level of your bakery, the more recipes become available.
Some key bakery recipes include:
Large Water Bottles — Made from large bottles
Dough — Made with daren wheat and butter
Cookie Dough — Requires bakery level 2 or higher
Sweet Bread — Requires bakery level 3 or higher; boosts citizen speed and removes poison effects. Needs honey bottle (from your apiary) and wheat
Food Quality and Residence Levels
Each recipe shows a nutrition value that determines whether it will satisfy your citizens. The higher the level of your residences, the more refined and nutritious food your colonists will expect. Lower-level citizens are satisfied with basic bread, but higher-level citizens demand better food options.

Smelting Recipes
The bakery also handles smelting recipes. For example, bread dough crafted by the baker is then cooked in a smelting recipe to produce bread. The baker will automatically place coal into the furnace to cook these recipes for you.

The Restaurant: Serving Food to Your Citizens
Setting Up the Restaurant
Once your bakery and cookery produce food, the courier automatically transports finished goods to the restaurant. This is where citizens come to eat.

Configuring Fuel
In the restaurant workstation, navigate to “Fuel” and select which fuel type your restaurant will use (coal or charcoal). All other settings remain on by default.

Managing the Menu
The “Menu” section allows you to control which foods are served. Each food item displays:
The minimum cookery or bakery level required to produce it
Which residence levels will eat it
The nutrition percentage provided to each residence level
For example, bread can be eaten by citizens in residences up to level 4, but level 5 residents won’t eat it at all—they only receive 25% nutrition from basic bread. This system encourages you to develop more diverse and interesting food options.

Click on a food item to add it to the menu. Once on the menu, the restaurant worker will serve it to citizens as long as supplies are available.

How the Restaurant Worker Operates
The restaurant worker automatically loads food into the furnace and serves it to visiting citizens. You’ll see storage racks in the restaurant holding items like baked potatoes, bread, ham pies, and coal for future furnace use. Citizens passively visit the restaurant to eat when they need nourishment.

The Cookery: Secondary Food Production
The cookery operates similarly to the bakery, with its own crafting and smelting recipes for preparing cooked items. At level 1, the cookery has limited functionality, but as you upgrade it, more recipes unlock and production becomes more efficient.

Citizen Skills: Maximizing Production Efficiency
Baker Skills (Bakery)
Focus on developing these skills in your baker:
Knowledge — Increases the chance of reducing materials needed (essentially producing free food)
Austerity — Increases crafting and smelting speed
Restaurant Worker Skills (Restaurant)
Prioritize these skills for your restaurant staff:
Adaptability — Faster cooking time
Knowledge — Increases the chance of reducing materials needed
Cook Skills (Cookery)
Develop these skills in your cooks:
Creativity — Faster cooking time
Knowledge — Increases the chance of reducing materials needed

Building a Diverse Food Supply
To keep all your citizens satisfied across different residence levels, diversify your animal and crop production. Maintain farms with:
Pigs
Cows
Chickens
Various crops (wheat, etc.)
This variety allows you to create multiple food recipes at different bakery and cookery levels, ensuring citizens at every residence level find food they’re willing to eat.
Summary
The MineColonies food production system relies on three key buildings working together: the bakery produces bread and pastries, the cookery creates cooked dishes, and the restaurant serves food to satisfied citizens. Support this system with couriers and warehouses to automate logistics, and develop the right citizen skills to maximize efficiency and reduce resource consumption. With higher-level bakeries, diverse recipes, and well-fed colonists, your colony will thrive.
