Mekanism – Pipes, Cables & Storage Full Tutorial
Mekanism – Pipes, Cables & Storage Full Tutorial
Mekanism offers multiple methods for transporting and storing energy, items, fluids, and gases. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the different transport systems and storage solutions available in Mekanism, from basic to ultimate tier variants.
Understanding Mekanism’s Transport & Storage Systems
Mekanism provides four tier variants for all transport and storage items: basic, advanced, elite, and ultimate. Each tier offers increased capacity and efficiency, allowing you to scale your infrastructure as your base grows.
Transport Methods Overview
Universal Cables
Universal cables handle electricity transportation throughout your Mekanism setup. They come in all four tier variants and are essential for power distribution.
Mechanical Pipes
Mechanical pipes are used for fluid transportation. Like all Mekanism transport systems, they are available in basic, advanced, elite, and ultimate versions.
Pressurized Tubes
Pressurized tubes are designed for gas transportation. They allow you to move gases efficiently through your system.
Logistical Transporters
Logistical transporters handle item transportation. These are ideal for moving items between machines and storage systems.
Thermodynamic Conductors
Thermodynamic conductors are used for heat transportation, allowing you to distribute heat energy throughout your base.
Creating Basic Universal Cables
To create a basic universal cable, you’ll need:
2 Steel Ingots
Redstone Dust
You can check the recipe by pressing R in JEI (Just Enough Items) to see the exact crafting layout.

Other Basic Transport Items
All basic tier transport items follow a similar pattern to universal cables, with variations based on their function:
Basic Mechanical Pipes
Recipe: Steel Ingot + Bucket
Basic Pressurized Tubes
Recipe: Steel Ingot + Glass
Basic Logistical Transporters
Recipe: Steel Ingot + Basic Control Circuit (made in the Metallurgic Infuser)
Basic Thermodynamic Conductors
Recipe: Steel Ingot + Copper
How to Make Steel
Steel is the foundational material for all basic Mekanism transport items. To produce steel, you’ll need a Metallurgic Infuser and an Energized Smelter set up in your tutorial laboratory or crafting area.

Step 1: Create Carbon
Place a Metallurgic Infuser in your setup. Insert coal into the yellow resource slot. The infuser will convert the coal into carbon.

Step 2: Create Enriched Iron
Take your iron ingots and feed them through the first Metallurgic Infuser (the one containing carbon). This process converts the iron ingots into enriched iron.

Step 3: Create Steel Dust
Set up a second Metallurgic Infuser with carbon in the resource slot. Feed the enriched iron into this infuser to produce steel dust.

Step 4: Smelt into Steel Ingots
Place your steel dust into an Energized Smelter. The smelter will convert the steel dust into steel ingots, which you can then use for crafting transport items and other Mekanism recipes.

Upgrading to Advanced Tier
To craft advanced tier transport items or storage, you’ll need:
8 Basic tier items of the same type
1 Infused Alloy
To create an Infused Alloy, place iron ingots into a Metallurgic Infuser with redstone dust in the resource slot. This infuses the iron with redstone to create the alloy needed for advanced tier items.

Upgrading to Elite Tier
To craft elite tier transport items or storage, you’ll need:
8 Advanced tier items of the same type
1 Reinforced Alloy
To create a Reinforced Alloy, use a Metallurgic Infuser to infuse your previously made Infused Alloy with diamond.

Upgrading to Ultimate Tier
To craft ultimate tier transport items or storage, you’ll need:
8 Elite tier items of the same type
1 Atomic Alloy
To create an Atomic Alloy, use a Metallurgic Infuser to infuse your Reinforced Alloy with refined obsidian. This is the final upgrade material tier in Mekanism.

Energy Storage: Energy Cubes
Energy cubes are Mekanism’s primary energy storage solution. They come in four tiers with increasing storage capacities:
Basic Energy Cube: 1.6 million RF storage
Advanced Energy Cube: 6.4 million RF storage
Elite Energy Cube: 25 million RF storage
Ultimate Energy Cube: 102 million RF storage
Energy cubes follow the same upgrading recipe structure as the transport items: combine 8 of the lower tier with the appropriate alloy to create the next tier up.

Fluid Storage: Fluid Tanks
Mekanism offers fluid tanks in all four tier variants for storing liquids:
Basic Fluid Tank
Advanced Fluid Tank
Elite Fluid Tank
Ultimate Fluid Tank
These follow the exact same crafting recipes as the energy cubes and transport items, using the alloy upgrade system to progress through tiers.
Chemical Storage: Chemical Tanks
For storing gases and chemicals, Mekanism provides chemical tanks in all four tier variants:
Basic Chemical Tank
Advanced Chemical Tank
Elite Chemical Tank
Ultimate Chemical Tank
Chemical tanks use the same tier progression and recipe system as fluid tanks and energy cubes.

Summary
Mekanism’s transport and storage systems provide a comprehensive solution for moving and storing every type of resource in your modpack. By understanding the tier progression system and the alloy requirements, you can efficiently scale your infrastructure from early-game basic setups to late-game ultimate tier installations. Whether you’re transporting energy, items, fluids, gases, or heat, Mekanism has a dedicated transport system for each need, with storage solutions to match.
