Steel is one of the most essential materials in Mekanism, and the good news is that creating it is a straightforward process. This tutorial will walk you through the three-machine setup needed to produce steel ingots efficiently, from raw materials to your final product.

Overview of the Steel-Making Process

To make steel in Mekanism, you’ll need three machines working together in sequence. The process is simple but requires proper configuration to run smoothly. Remember that you can add speed and energy upgrades to any of these machines to significantly increase production efficiency.

Step 1: First Metallurgic Infuser – Creating Enriched Iron

Your first step is to set up a Metallurgic Infuser. This machine will infuse iron with carbon to create enriched iron.

Start by collecting coal—you can use regular coal or coal blocks, with coal blocks being even faster for this process. Place your coal into the yellow section of the Metallurgic Infuser. This will generate carbon that will infuse with your iron ore, transforming it into enriched iron.

Make sure to configure the output on the side panel so the enriched iron is automatically ejected from the machine.

Step 2: Second Metallurgic Infuser – Creating Steel Dust

The enriched iron from your first Metallurgic Infuser will be pumped directly into a second Metallurgic Infuser. This machine performs the critical second transformation.

Add more carbon (or coal) to this second infuser and let it process the enriched iron. The output of this step will be steel dust—a crucial intermediate material.

Configure the side output on the right side of this second infuser to automatically eject the steel dust.

Step 3: Energized Smelter – Final Steel Ingots

The final step is to pump your steel dust into an Energized Smelter. This machine converts steel dust into usable steel ingots.

The Energized Smelter will smelt your steel dust into steel ingots, which is the final product you need for crafting and building.
