How To Make Thaumaturge Gear In Thaumcraft 6

This gear is essential for any serious thaumaturge, as it provides valuable vis discounts when crafting at the Arcane Workbench, making expensive recipes much more manageable, especially in chunks where vis is scarce.

Why Use Thaumaturge Gear?

Each piece of Thaumaturge gear provides a vis discount when crafting at the Arcane Workbench. Here’s the breakdown per piece:

Thaumaturge’s Boots — 2% vis discount

Thaumaturge’s Leggings — 3% vis discount

Thaumaturge’s Robes — 3% vis discount

Wearing the full set gives you a combined total of 8% vis discount on everything you craft at the Arcane Workbench. This can make a real difference when you’re working with limited vis in your chunk.

What You Need

Arcane Workbench Vis Costs

All three pieces of Thaumaturge gear are crafted at the Arcane Workbench. Each piece costs 100 vis to craft:

Thaumaturge’s Robes — 100 vis

Thaumaturge’s Leggings — 100 vis

Thaumaturge’s Boots — 100 vis

Enchanted Fabric

Before you can craft any of the Thaumaturge gear pieces, you’ll need to craft Enchanted Fabric. This is the core material used in all three recipes. To craft Enchanted Fabric at the Arcane Workbench, you will need:

5 vis per piece of Enchanted Fabric

To craft the full set of Thaumaturge gear, you will need a total of 19 pieces of Enchanted Fabric. This does make it a fairly expensive set to produce, so make sure you stock up on string and wool beforehand.

Step 1 — Craft the Enchanted Fabric

Head to your Arcane Workbench and place your string and wool into the crafting grid in the appropriate pattern. Each crafting operation will consume 5 vis and produce one piece of Enchanted Fabric. Repeat this process until you have all 19 pieces of Enchanted Fabric ready.

Once you have your 19 pieces of Enchanted Fabric, you’re ready to start crafting the gear itself.

Step 2 — Craft the Thaumaturge’s Leggings

At your Arcane Workbench, arrange the Enchanted Fabric in the same pattern you would use to craft standard Iron Leggings. The workbench will consume 100 vis to complete the recipe. Once crafted, equip the leggings immediately — doing so means you’ll benefit from their 3% vis discount when crafting the remaining pieces.

Step 3 — Craft the Thaumaturge’s Boots

With the leggings now equipped, return to the Arcane Workbench and craft the Thaumaturge’s Boots using the Enchanted Fabric in the standard boots pattern. Again, equip the boots straight away after crafting them. With both the boots and leggings equipped, you’ll have an 8% vis discount (or more if you’re also wearing other discount gear such as the Goggles of Revealing) ready for the final crafting step.

Step 4 — Craft the Thaumaturge’s Robes

Finally, craft the Thaumaturge’s Robes at the Arcane Workbench using the Enchanted Fabric arranged in the standard chestplate pattern. Once crafted, equip the robes to complete the full set. You’ll now be receiving the maximum vis discount from your Thaumaturge gear whenever you craft at the Arcane Workbench.

A Note on the Goggles of Revealing

You may notice during crafting that your vis discount appears higher than the 8% provided by the Thaumaturge set alone. The Goggles of Revealing also provide an additional vis discount (5% in this case). These are covered in a separate guide, as they have a slightly different crafting process. If you have them available, wearing them alongside your Thaumaturge gear will increase your total discount even further.
