How to Find & Kill the Lich in The Twilight Forest

The Lich is the second boss you’ll encounter in The Twilight Forest mod, and it’s one of the most challenging fights in the game. This guide will walk you through locating the Lich Tower, navigating its interior, and defeating the Lich across all three phases of combat. Whether you’re a seasoned modded Minecraft player or tackling this boss for the first time, you’ll find the strategies and tips you need to succeed.

Locating the Lich Tower

Before you can fight the Lich, you must first defeat the Naga boss. Once the Naga is dead, you can access the Lich Tower. On your magic map, the Lich Tower is marked by a distinctive icon—a figure with a crown on its head. After you’ve killed the Naga, the magical force field surrounding the tower will disappear, allowing you to enter.

Navigate to the tower’s location using your magic map. You’ll notice there’s no front door to speak of—you’ll need to break your way inside. The Lich doesn’t appreciate uninvited guests!

Navigating the Lich Tower Interior

The Lich Tower is a multi-level structure filled with hazards and enemies. Here’s what to expect:

General Layout and Hazards

The tower is covered in cobwebs and features multiple levels connected by ladders and stairs. Your goal is to reach the very top where the Lich awaits. Watch out for holes in the stairs—these are easy to fall through and can damage you.

Loot and Items

As you ascend the tower, you’ll find several useful items in chests scattered throughout:

Transformation Powder — Converts moss patches into moss blocks and other Twilight Forest items

Enemies and Spawners

The tower is inhabited by dangerous mobs, including:

Death Tomes — These will attack you on sight

Skeleton Druids — Powerful skeletal enemies

Spawners — Various mob spawners throughout the tower

Simply climb the ladders and navigate around these obstacles until you reach the top of the tower.

The Lich Boss Fight

The Lich fight is divided into three distinct phases, each with different mechanics and difficulty levels.

Phase One: Shield and Reflect

When you first encounter the Lich, he will be surrounded by protective shields that make him invulnerable to direct attacks. During this phase, the Lich fires gassed bolts at you. Your primary strategy is to reflect these bolts back at him by attacking them, similar to how you’d kill a normal gassed.

The Lich will also summon duplicates of himself to distract you. These duplicates don’t pose a direct threat but can make it harder to focus on the real Lich.

Phase One Strategy Tips

Phase One is widely considered the most annoying part of the fight because of the bolt-reflection mechanic. Here are some proven strategies:

Corner Strategy — Find a corner near the stairs and position yourself there. Flick your weapon rapidly to reflect bolts back toward the Lich. Standing in a fixed position allows you to direct most bolts in the same direction.

Retreat to Safety — If you need to heal, retreat down the stairs slightly where the Lich has difficulty attacking you. Eat a golden apple to restore health, then return to the fight.

Persistence — There’s no complex strategy here—just keep reflecting bolts until his health bar depletes. You’ll see his health decrease as more bolts connect.

Phase Two: Zombie Summons

Once Phase One is complete, the Lich enters Phase Two. This phase is significantly easier. The Lich will summon loads of zombies to attack you, but you can now approach and melee the Lich directly. Simply fight through the zombie minions and deal damage to the Lich using your sword or other melee weapon.

Phase Three: Berserk Mode

In Phase Three, the Lich goes berserk but the fight mechanics remain largely the same as Phase Two. Continue meleing the Lich until his health reaches zero. This phase is not significantly more dangerous than Phase Two.

Lich Rewards and Loot

After defeating the Lich, a chest will appear in the middle of the arena. Open it to claim your rewards:

Lich Trophy — A decorative item commemorating your victory

Golden Sword — A valuable melee weapon

Septa — One of four special magical artifacts (see below)

The Four Septas

The Septa you receive is randomly determined. There are four types, each with unique abilities and recharge requirements:

Septa of Fortification

Ability: Places shields around you, similar to the Lich’s shields

Recharge Cost: Golden Apple

Zombie Septa

Ability: Summon zombies to fight for you

Recharge Cost: Potion of Strength + Zombie Rotten Flesh

Septa of Twilight

Ability: Shoot endopels like the Lich does

Recharge Cost: Endopel

Septa of Life Training

Ability: Drain life from your enemies

Recharge Cost: Fermented Spider Eye
