Manual Animal Collection

The easiest way to collect animals is to find them in the Overworld and bring them back to your base. Simply locate an animal and use Shift + Right-click to carry it with you. This works on any animal you encounter, making transport back to your base quick and effortless.

Purchasing Animals from Villagers

If you can’t find the animals you need, you can purchase them from a Shepherd villager. The Shepherd’s workstation is a Loom. They offer several useful items:

Animal Feed – Essential for keeping your animals healthy

Feeding Trough – Automatically feeds nearby animals in an 11×11×11 radius

Diamond Lasso – Costs 16,000 gold; lets you carry animals without slowing you down

Milk Pail – Required for milking milk-producing animals

Miracle Potion – Used to breed animals

Magic Shears – Needed to harvest from animals

Spawn Crates – Purchase pre-made animals:

Chickens: 128 gold

Cows: 500 gold

Sheep and Ducks: 500 gold each

Rabbits: 500 gold

Pigs: Very expensive

Budget Tip: For expensive animals like pigs, purchase just two of them or find them manually in the wild, then breed them using Miracle Potions. This is far more cost-effective than buying multiple spawn crates.

Animal Care and Affection System

Understanding Affection

Animals in Society Sunlit Valley have an affection system. They must like you before you can harvest from them. Affection is displayed when you right-click an animal to check its status. Several actions increase affection:

Hand-feeding animals with hay (faster affection gain)

Name-tagging animals

Petting animals once per day with an empty hand (right-click to pet)

Daily Feeding

Animals need to be fed every day. Right-click with hay to feed them manually—you’ll see sparkles appear above their heads when fed. However, manual feeding can be tedious with a large animal population.

Using the Feeding Trough

Place a Feeding Trough in your animal enclosure to automate feeding. It will automatically feed all nearby animals within its large radius at regular intervals. This saves you from daily manual feeding and is highly recommended for larger operations.

Petting Animals

You can pet animals once per day by right-clicking them with an empty hand. You’ll see love hearts appear above their heads, and they’ll gain affection. Petting also grants you Husbandry XP. This action is crucial for building trust with stubborn animals like pigs.

Housing and Enclosure Guidelines

Pig Housing

Pigs don’t like being in enclosed areas with more than four of them. If you need to house multiple pigs, create separate pens with a maximum of four pigs per enclosure. You can use white carpet over fence gates to allow yourself to pass while keeping pigs contained.

Goat Housing

Goats are unique because they jump very high and can escape most enclosures. It’s recommended to rope them in or use high barriers to prevent escape.

Harvesting Animal Products

General Harvesting Requirements

Once an animal has built up enough affection (indicated by love hearts reaching a certain height), you can harvest from it once per day. The game will indicate when an animal needs to rest and cannot be harvested again that day.

Harvesting from Chickens

Right-click chickens with your hand to harvest. You’ll receive Raw Chicken and occasionally Feathers. You can also craft Chicken Nests where chickens will lay eggs that you can collect by right-clicking the nest.

Harvesting from Sheep

Use Magic Shears on sheep to harvest Raw Mutton and Wool. Different sheep varieties produce different colored wool. You’ll receive Wool in various colors depending on your sheep.

Harvesting Milk

To manually milk animals like cows, goats, and sheep, use a Milk Pail by right-clicking the animal. This gives you Large Milk or Small Milk depending on the animal’s size.

Automatic Harvesting with Auto Grabbers

In mid to late game, you can use an Auto Grabber filled with Spark Stone to automatically harvest from animals in a large area around it. Simply place it near your animal enclosures and it will continuously collect meat, milk, eggs, feathers, and other products. You can upgrade Auto Grabbers with Magic Shears for enhanced functionality.

Husbandry Skills and Perks

As you gain Husbandry XP through petting, feeding, and harvesting animals, you unlock several useful perks:

Farm animals gain affection faster – Speeds up your animal trust-building

Magic Shears drops double items – Harvest twice as much wool, meat, and other products

Double milk production – Animals produce twice as much milk

Golden eggs from birds – Rare golden eggs with special properties

Pig drops double or triple truffles – Massively increases truffle output from pigs

Friendship Necklace – Animals can be given a Friendship Necklace for a small chance to gift a Prismatic Shard (endgame material)

Gold Coin increases affection – Use a Gold Coin on animals to instantly boost their affection

Heart of Diamond exchange – Right-click a farm animal with a Knife to exchange affection for a Heart of Diamond (valuable currency)

Precision Mechanism – Use on a farm animal to prevent its affection from decreasing

Processing Animal Products

Eggs and Mayonnaise Production

Eggs are worth 4 gold each and used in many recipes like cakes and pancakes. To scale up egg production, use an Artisan Hopper filled with Spark Stone. Place a barrel above it containing eggs, and it will automatically feed eggs into connected Mayonnaise Machines each day, converting them into Mayonnaise. Output collects below the machines.

For late-game automation, integrate Refined Storage Importers and Exporters to automatically input and output products from your system.

Milk and Cheese Production

Milk from goats, sheep, and cows can be processed into cheese using an Artisan Hopper and Cheese Press. For efficiency, use Large Milk (made from four Small Milk):

Large Milk takes 2 days to produce a Cheese Wheel in the Cheese Press

Place the Cheese Wheel in a crafting grid to make 4 pieces of Cheese instantly

Small Milk also takes 2 days but only produces 1 piece of Cheese, making Large Milk much more efficient

Meat Processing: Beef

Raw Beef can be used directly in recipes or processed further. Use a Cutting Board with a Knife to chop Raw Beef into Beef Patties. One stack of Raw Beef yields two stacks of Beef Patties, effectively doubling your meat output. Most recipes that accept Raw Beef also accept Beef Patties.

Meat Processing: Pork and Bacon

Raw Pork Chops can be converted to Bacon using a Cutting Board. Right-click Raw Pork Chops on the board to mince them into Bacon. Some recipes require Pork while others require Bacon, so produce both as needed. One stack of Raw Pork Chops makes three Bacon.

Meat Processing: Mutton

Raw Mutton from sheep can be processed into Raw Mutton Chops using the same Cutting Board method. Like other meats, you’ll double your output, allowing recipes calling for Raw Mutton to use Raw Mutton Chops instead.

Meat Processing: Chicken

Raw Chicken can be processed into Raw Chicken Cuts using a Cutting Board and Knife. This doubles your chicken output, and most recipes accept either Raw Chicken or Raw Chicken Cuts. This is particularly useful since chicken is versatile in many recipes.

Other Meat Products

Duck and Goat (Chevon) are less versatile:

Raw Duck: Limited recipe options

Chevon (Goat Meat): Primarily used for Goat Stew; not as exciting as other meats

Egg Processing

Eggs can be cracked into Cracked Eggs, which are accepted in recipes that call for eggs. This gives you flexibility in how you use your egg production.

Wool Processing
