Complete Vampirism Mod Tutorial: Become a Vampire & Vampire Lord in Minecraft
This comprehensive guide will walk you through every step of becoming a vampire, leveling up through all 14 vampire levels, and ultimately ascending to become a Vampire Lord in the Vampirism mod for Minecraft. You’ll learn how to obtain blood, use skill points, find village representatives, and master all the mechanics that make this mod one of the most immersive faction-based experiences in Minecraft modding.
Getting Started: How to Obtain Blood
Once you’ve become a vampire, your first priority is obtaining blood to sustain yourself. Approach any mob that you can drain—your cursor will change to display red fangs when you’re targeting a valid victim.
Be careful, though: if you see green fangs instead of red ones, it means vampire hunters have injected the mob with garlic, and biting will poison you. Always check the fang color before feeding.
To feed, press V (for Vampire—this is customizable in your key bindings) on the mob. This action will fill your hunger bar and automatically collect any blood in bottles or buckets in your inventory. If you completely drain a mob, it will die, but you’ll have extracted all available blood.

Leveling Up: Levels 1-4 Using the Altar of Inspiration
To progress as a vampire, you’ll need to create an Altar of Inspiration—a simple structure made from a blood container. Use the blood bottles you’ve collected by right-clicking them onto the altar to fill it with blood.
Once filled, wait until nighttime and right-click the altar. You’ll see the blood rise into the sky, followed by lightning striking you. This grants you regeneration and advances your vampire level.

The blood cost increases as you level:
Level 1 to Level 2: 4 buckets of blood
Level 2 to Level 3: 4 buckets of blood (7 total required)
Level 3 to Level 4: 3 buckets of blood (10 total required)

Skill Points and Customization
When you become a vampire, you automatically receive 6 skill points. By the time you reach level 14, you can accumulate a maximum of 14 skill points. Additionally, becoming a Vampire Lord grants an extra 5 skill points, bringing your maximum to 19.
Click the skills icon to access the skill screen. Here you can spend points on various abilities:
Night Vision: Costs 2 skill points
Regeneration: Temporarily regenerates health but uses more blood
Bat Form: Transform into a bat to explore and travel
Many other powerful vampire abilities

You cannot unlock all skills without either cheating in the config or installing the optional God Leave Vampirism mod. This addon removes most downsides, enhances capabilities, minimizes sun damage, eliminates nausea, and grants 2 skill points per level instead of 1.

You’ll also notice a “Reset Skills” option that requires a Potion of Oblivion. This potion is obtained later through tasks completed for village representatives.
Leveling Up: Levels 4-14 Using the Altar of Infusion
To progress beyond level 4, you must construct an Altar of Infusion, made from gold and obsidian by default. However, this altar alone isn’t sufficient—you also need to build supporting Altar Pillars around it.

Building the Pillar Structure
Altar Pillars can be placed in a 9×9 grid around your altar, with a maximum of 6 pillars. Each pillar’s point value depends on the material used:
Stone Bricks: 1 point per block (max 3 high = 3 points)
Iron Blocks: 2 points per block (max 3 high = 6 points)
Gold Blocks: 3 points per block (max 3 high = 9 points)

For maximum flexibility, create six pillars using gold blocks, each 3 blocks high, and top each with an Altar Tip. This provides 54 points total—enough for any level through 14.

Altar of Infusion Requirements by Level
Each level requires specific amounts of:
Structure Points: Determined by pillar configuration
Human Hearts: Dropped by Vampire Hunters found in villages
Pure Blood of varying purity levels: Obtained from Vampire Barons
A Book: Found in strongholds, dungeons, or pyramids

Finding Pure Blood and Vampire Barons
Pure blood comes in five purity levels (1-5). To find pure blood, you must locate a Vampire Biome, which appears as a dark, horrific forest on your map. In these biomes, you’ll encounter various vampire types:

Regular Vampires: Don’t drop pure blood
Named Vampires: Have unique names and drop books occasionally
Vampire Barons: Drop pure blood at purity levels matching their own level

For example, a level 5 Vampire Baron drops level 5 purity blood, while a level 2 Baron drops level 2 purity blood. Important: If a ritual requires purity 1 blood, higher purity levels (2, 3, 4, or 5) will work as substitutes, but save your purity 5 blood for later levels where they’re mandatory.

Obtaining Books
Books are found in:
Strongholds
Dungeon chests
Pyramid chests
Drops from named vampires

Performing the Ritual
Once you’ve gathered all required items, open the Altar of Infusion GUI and place:
Human hearts in the appropriate slot
Pure blood on the left
A book on the right (one book per level)

Ensure it’s nighttime, then right-click the altar. The ritual will draw energy from the pillars, and you’ll be struck by beams of blood. Upon completion, you’ll level up. The higher your level, the more pillars will be consumed in the process.

Quick Leveling to Level 14 (Optional Cheat)
If you prefer to skip ahead, you can use the command:
/vampirism level vampire 14
Replace “14” with your desired level. This instantly promotes you without requiring the ritual components.

Vampire Gameplay: FAQ and Essential Mechanics
Processing Meat into Blood
Since vampires don’t eat food, excess meat can be converted to drinkable blood. Create a Blood Sieve and place a Blood Grinder above it. Add meat to the grinder, and it will grind and sieve the meat into blood buckets below. You can drink directly from the sieve whenever you need.

Sun Damage and Vampire Levels
The effects of sunlight increase as you level:
Level 1: Black border around screen
Levels 2-3: Weakness effect
Level 3+: Nausea effect
Level 4+: Direct damage

To escape the sun, craft and sleep in a Coffin, which advances the time to night.

Blood Storage
Use Blood Containers to store blood for later use. You can drink directly from them by pressing V.

Vampire Death Mechanics
When you die as a vampire, you don’t immediately respawn. Instead, you lie down and regenerate over time, converting your blood hunger into health. This allows you to get back up naturally.

However, three things can permanently kill you:
Wooden Stakes: Carried by some Vampire Hunters
Holy Water: Instantly lethal to vampires
Fire: Causes permanent death

You can also manually give up and respawn if needed, though waiting allows you to resurrect at your current location by clicking the red “Direct” button.

Vampire-Exclusive Armor
Certain armor is crafted exclusively for vampires using pure blood:
Hunter Gear (Head): Grants 1 armor point
Vampire Cloak
Vampire Pants
Vampire Boots

Important: Heavy armor (Iron and above) slows you down as a vampire. Stick with leather or lower to maintain your speed advantage.
Becoming a Vampire Lord: Levels 14+
Finding a Vampire Representative
At level 14, you can choose to become a Vampire Lord. To do this, you must find a Vampire Village and locate a Vampire Representative within it.

Right-click the representative to see their available tasks. Tasks vary and include:
Killing Vampire Barons
Infecting mobs with the Sanguine effect
Rewards include accessories like the Ring of the Sword Master and Potions of Oblivion

The “Are You Worthy?” Quest
To become a Vampire Lord, you must complete the “Are You Worthy?” quest. Requirements include:
5 Pure Blood (Purity 5): The highest purity level
32 Gold Ingots
Infect 25 mobs with the Sanguine effect
Complete 1 Faction Raid: Either attack or defend a village 3 times

Completing Faction Raids
To complete faction raids, locate a neutral or Hunter-owned village and craft or find a Village Totem Top. Right-click it to initiate a raid. Defend your faction’s villages or attack enemy-owned villages to fulfill this requirement.

Progression Through Vampire Lord Levels
Upon completing “Are You Worthy?”, you become a Baron (shown as B.A.R. above your health bar). The representative then offers new quests for higher lord levels:
Lord Level 2: Kill 30 hunters, 48 gold ingots, 5 pure blood (Purity 5)
Lord Level 3: Similar requirements, scaling up
Advanced Tiers: Mania (kill advanced hunters), Megalomania (capture hostile villages)

Vampire Lord Titles
As you progress through the lord ranks, your title changes:
Baron / Baroness
Count / Countess
Duke / Duchess
Prince / Princess

Vampire Minions
Once you reach Lord Level 1, you can recruit minions. Use a Vampire Minion Binding (obtained from representative tasks) on a vampire to convert them into your minion.

Right-click minions to issue commands:
Stay here
Follow me
Defend the area
Defend my lord

Minions have their own stats (attack damage, max health, speed, inventory size) and can be upgraded using Vampire Minion Upgrades from representative tasks. You can also customize their appearance or assign them the Lord skin.

Vampire Abilities and Skill Wheel
Unlock abilities from the skill tree—such as Bat Form—and they’ll appear on your ability wheel. Press R to open the wheel, then click an ability to toggle it. For example, clicking Bat Mode transforms you into a bat capable of flight. Press R again and click the ability to deactivate it.

Conclusion
You now have a complete understanding of the Vampirism mod for Minecraft. From your first blood meal as a newly turned vampire to commanding your own army of minions as a Prince or Princess, this mod offers an incredibly immersive and rewarding progression path. Remember to manage your blood supply, avoid sunlight and hunters, and work your way up through the ranks to become the ultimate Vampire Lord.
