The Ultimate Guide to Vampirism

The Ultimate Guide to Vampirism Mod for Minecraft

Welcome to the complete guide for the Vampirism mod! This comprehensive tutorial covers everything you need to know about becoming a vampire, leveling up, acquiring special abilities, and even taking on the role of a vampire hunter. Whether you’re interested in the dark side of the undead or hunting them down, this guide has you covered.

Becoming a Vampire

Getting Infected

The first step to becoming a vampire in the Vampirism mod is getting infected. When you encounter vampires in the world, they may attack you and infect you with the Sanguine Vampiris effect. Once you receive this effect, you’ll notice it appears on your character. The effect lasts approximately 8 to 11 minutes, and once the timer expires, you’ll officially become a vampire.

If you don’t want to become a vampire, you have options to prevent it. You can drink milk to cure the infection, or find a vampire hunter in one of the tents scattered around the world. These tents are distinctive structures, and the vampire hunters inside can cure you of the Sanguine Vampiris effect before the timer runs out.

Using Vampire Fangs

Another way to become infected is by collecting vampire fangs. When you kill vampires, they may drop vampire fangs. You can right-click these fangs to use them, which will poison you slightly and infect you with Sanguine Vampiris. This is a useful alternative if a vampire doesn’t infect you during combat.

Becoming Official

Once the Sanguine Vampiris timer expires, you officially become a vampire. You’ll notice several changes: your hunger bar transforms into a blood bar, and you gain a vampire level indicator (shown in purple above your XP bar). Your eyes also change appearance in-game. You can access the Vampire UI by clicking a button in your inventory, which reveals a skill screen for progression.

Curing Yourself After Transformation

If you become a vampire but change your mind, you can still be cured. Look for an Altar of Cleansing in a village church—this will completely remove your vampire status. However, once you’re officially transformed, vampire hunters will no longer cure you and will instead hunt you down.

Feeding as a Vampire

Locating and Draining Mobs

As a vampire, you need blood to survive. When you approach a mob that you can feed on, your cursor changes to red fangs. Be careful, though—some mobs may have been injected with garlic by vampire hunters, and their icons will appear as green fangs instead. If you bite a mob with garlic, you’ll be poisoned, so avoid green-fang targets.

To drain a mob’s blood, press V (or whatever key you bind in your settings) to activate vampire mode. This will fill your hunger bar with blood. If you have empty bottles or buckets in your inventory, they’ll automatically fill with blood as well.

Creating a Blood Sieve

If you have leftover meat from animals, you can convert it into drinkable blood. Place a blood sieve on the ground, then place a blood grinder above it. Put meat (beef or other varieties) into the blood grinder, and it will grind and sieve the meat into blood below. You can then drink directly from the blood sieve whenever needed.

Leveling Up: Levels 1-4

Building an Altar of Inspiration

To level up from level 1, you need to create an Altar of Inspiration. This is a simple structure made from a blood container. Collect blood bottles (which you obtain from draining mobs) and right-click them onto the Altar of Inspiration to fill it with blood.

Performing the Ritual

Once your Altar of Inspiration is filled with blood, perform the ritual at nighttime. Right-click on the altar, and you’ll see the blood rise into the sky. Lightning will strike you, and you’ll gain regeneration and level up. The cost increases with each level: 4 buckets of blood to reach level 2, 3 additional buckets to reach level 3 (7 total), and 10 buckets to reach level 4.

Skills and Abilities

Accessing Your Skill Screen

When you become a vampire, you receive 6 initial skill points. You can view and manage these by clicking the skills icon in your vampire UI. The maximum skill points available is 14, and becoming a vampire lord grants an additional 5 skill points, for a total of 19 possible points (though some configurations may vary).

Available Vampire Skills

Various skills are available for purchase, including:

Night Vision – Costs 2 skill points

Regeneration – Temporarily regenerates health but uses more blood

Bat Form – Allows you to transform into a bat and fly

Many other unique abilities

Since you won’t have enough skill points to unlock all abilities, you’ll need to choose wisely based on your playstyle.

Using Godly Vampirism Mod

If you want to access more vampire abilities without the harsh restrictions, you can install the Godly Vampirism mod. This mod modifies Vampirism’s configuration to reduce downsides and enhance capabilities, including very little sun damage, no nausea, a small yellow sun indicator, significantly lower blood usage, and 2 skill points per level instead of the default amount. To apply these changes to existing worlds, use the command provided in the mod documentation.

Leveling Up: Levels 5-14

Building an Altar of Infusion

To progress beyond level 4, you need to construct an Altar of Infusion. This altar is made with gold and obsidian by default. However, the altar alone isn’t enough—you must also build altar pillars around it. These pillars can be arranged in approximately a 3×3 or 9×9 area around your main altar, with a maximum of 6 pillars.

Understanding the Point System

Altar pillars work on a point system. Different materials grant different points:

Stone Bricks – 1 point each

Iron Blocks – 2 points each

Gold Blocks – 3 points each

Pillars can be built up to 3 blocks high. For example, a 3-block-high gold pillar would provide 9 points. You need to place altar tips on top of each pillar to activate them.

Requirements for Level Progression

Different vampire levels require different point totals. For reference:

Level 5 – 8 points

Level 6 – 17 points

Level 14 – 54 points

To simplify the process, building 6 pillars with gold blocks provides enough points for most levels. Additionally, you’ll need pure blood of various purities and human hearts to perform the ritual.

Obtaining Human Hearts

Human hearts are dropped by vampire hunters. Find them in tents scattered around the world or in villages, defeat them, and collect their hearts.

Finding Pure Blood

Pure blood is essential for leveling up through the Altar of Infusion. To find pure blood, locate a vampire biome—a distinctive, horrific forest that’s very obvious on the map. In these biomes, you’ll encounter vampire barons. The purity of the blood they drop corresponds to their level:

Level 1 Vampire Baron – Purity 1 blood

Level 3 Vampire Baron – Purity 3 blood

Level 5 Vampire Baron – Purity 5 blood

If you only need purity 1 but have purity 5 blood, you can use it as a substitute since higher purities fulfill lower requirements. However, save your highest purity blood for later levels when they become mandatory.

Finding Books

Books are required for the Altar of Infusion rituals. You can find these in dungeons, pyramids, strongholds, and various treasure chests. Named vampires (those between regular vampires and barons in strength) also drop books, so defeating them is another reliable source.

Performing the Infusion Ritual

Once you’ve gathered the required items (human hearts, pure blood, and books), open your Altar of Infusion’s GUI. Place human hearts in the appropriate slot, pure blood on the left side, and books on the right. Ensure the ritual is performed at nighttime, then right-click the altar. The blood will rise into the sky, and lightning will strike you, leveling you up.

You can repeat this process to advance through levels 5 through 14. As you reach higher levels, more of your altar pillars will be utilized in the ritual, creating a visually impressive display.

Cheating to Level 14

If you prefer to skip the grinding, you can use the command: /vampirism level vampire 14 (replacing “14” with your desired level). This instantly sets your vampire level without requiring resources.

Vampire Mechanics and Effects

Sun Damage Progression

As a vampire, sunlight affects you differently depending on your level:

Level 1 – A border appears around your screen

Level 2+ – You receive weakness effect

Level 3+ – You receive nausea effect

Level 4+ – You take actual damage from sunlight

Escaping Sunlight with Coffins

To avoid sun damage, you can craft and use coffins. Sleeping in a coffin will skip to nighttime, allowing you to continue your activities without taking damage.

Storing Blood

Blood containers can be placed in the world as decoration and storage. Right-click them while holding blood bottles to fill them, and press V to drink directly from them later.

Death Mechanics

Vampires don’t die the same way as regular players. When you die, you’ll fall to the ground and can regenerate over time without actually dying. However, certain threats can permanently kill you:

Stakes – Carried by some vampire hunters; these instantly kill vampires

Holy Water – Kills vampires permanently

Fire – Causes permanent death

Your hunger bar blood converts to health when you’re revived. You can also voluntarily choose to die by pressing a “give up” button if you need to respawn at your bed.

Vampire Abilities and Resistances

As a vampire, you gain several advantages:

Increased movement speed

Tough skin providing damage reduction

Zombies will not target you (they sense you’re dead)

However, wearing armor heavier than leather will slow you down significantly. Stick to light armor like leather or vampire-specific gear.

Vampire Armor and Equipment

Crafting Vampire Gear

Using pure blood, you can craft vampire-exclusive armor and accessories:

Hunter Gear – Exclusive to vampires; provides armor when worn on the head

Vampire Cloak – Crafted from materials

Vampire Pants – Made from wool and hearts

Vampire Boots – Provides additional armor

Using the Umbrella

The umbrella is a unique item that reduces your movement speed by 55% but provides complete protection from sunlight, allowing you to travel during the day.

Becoming a Vampire Lord (Levels 14-19)

Finding a Vampire Village Representative

At level 14, you can progress further by becoming a vampire lord. To do this, find a village controlled by vampires and locate the vampire representative. Some villages are owned by vampires, some by hunters, and some are neutral. Right-click the vampire representative to see available quests.

The “Are You Worthy” Quest

To become a vampire lord, you must complete the “Are You Worthy” quest, which requires:

5 pure blood bottles of purity 5

32 gold ingots

Infect 25 mobs with Sanguine (bite them)

Win or defend 1 faction raid

Starting Village Raids

To complete the raid requirement, find a village that’s neutral or controlled by hunters. Look for the village totem (a structure in the village center) and right-click it to start a raid. Defend or attack depending on the village’s faction. If you’re successful, the village will become controlled by vampires.

Progressing Through Lord Levels

Once you’ve completed the initial lord quest, you’ll become a baron. The vampire representative will then offer additional quests for higher lord levels:

Baron – Initial lord rank

Viscount/Viscountess – Next progression

Count/Countess – Further advancement

Duke/Duchess – Higher tier

Prince/Princess – Highest rank

Each progression requires tasks such as killing hunters, collecting gold ingots, and gathering pure blood. The requirements increase as you advance in rank.

Getting Additional Quests

As you level through the lord ranks, you may encounter quests like:

“Control Mania” – Requires controlling villages and infecting mobs

“Megalomania” – Involves conquering hostile villages

Vampire Minions

Obtaining Minion Bindings

Once you reach lord level 1, you can recruit vampire minions. First, you need a Vampire Minion Binding, which can be obtained as a reward from vampire representative quests.

Creating Your Minion

Use the Vampire Minion Binding on a regular vampire to convert them into your minion. Right-click your minion to assign commands:

Stay here

Follow me

Defend the area

Defend my lord

You can view their stats (attack damage, max health, speed, inventory size) and customize their appearance.

Upgrading Minions

Minions can be leveled up using minion upgrades obtained from vampire representative quests. Different upgrades are required for different level progressions. Higher-level upgrades (levels 4-7) require you to be lord level 5.

Minion Skills

In your skill screen, you’ll find a separate minion skill tree. Points gained here improve your minions’ abilities, such as:

Increased attack speed of nearby vampires

Increased movement speed of nearby vampires

Minion Hotkeys

You can bind minion commands to hotkeys through your controls menu. For example, pressing R will bring up a radial menu where you can assign minion tasks. If you unlock skills like bat form, they’ll appear on this wheel for quick access.

Becoming a Vampire Hunter

Obtaining a Garlic Injection

To become a vampire hunter instead of a vampire, visit a village controlled by hunters. Find the vampire hunter trainer in a house within the village. Craft a garlic injection using a syringe and garlic (garlic can be found in chests near the trainer or growing outside their house).

Using the Injection Chair

Find the injection chair in the village and use your garlic injection on it. This will give you the Toxicant effect, officially transforming you into a level 1 vampire hunter. You’ll gain hunter skills in your inventory and access to the skill screen.

Hunter Skill Tree

As a hunter, you’ll unlock various skills including:

How to use a stake

How to use the weapon table

And many other hunter-specific abilities

Leveling Up as a Vampire Hunter (Levels 1-4)

Hunting Vampires

To progress from level 1 to level 4, hunt vampires using stakes. Only the final hit with a stake counts toward progression. When you defeat a vampire with a stake, you’ll receive vampire blood bottles—these are crucial for leveling.

Finding Hunter Camps

Hunter camps are scattered throughout the world and appear as clusters of white tents. You’ll find vampire hunters at these camps who can train you. Right-click a regular vampire hunter and pay them vampire blood bottles to level up:

Level 2 – 1 vampire blood bottle

Level 3 – 5 vampire blood bottles

Level 4 – 12 vampire blood bottles

Leveling Up as a Vampire Hunter (Levels 5-14)

Using the Hunter Research Table

To progress beyond level 4, you need a hunter research table. This table requires four components:

Books (left side) – Found in dungeons, pyramids, strongholds, or dropped by named vampires

Vampire Fangs (lower left) – Dropped from vampires

Pure Blood (lower right) – Obtained from vampire barons in vampire biomes

Upgrading the Research Table

You can enhance the hunter research table by placing specific blocks around it:

Alchemical Cauldron – For crafting alchemical items

Potion Table – For brewing special potions

Weapon Table – For crafting hunter weapons

Creating Hunter Intel

Fill the hunter research table with the required items (books, vampire fangs, pure blood) to create hunter intel. This item is used for advancing your hunter level through level 14.

Using the Hunter Trainer

Return to the vampire hunter trainer who originally trained you. They’ll ask for hunter intel and iron ingots to perform a ritual. Once provided, you can level up to your next rank.

Repeating the Process

To reach level 14, repeat this process for each level, gathering more vampire fangs, higher purity blood, and additional hunter intel as requirements increase.

Becoming a Hunter Lord (Levels 14-19)

The “Are You Worthy” Quest

Once you reach level 14, you can become a hunter lord. Find the hunter village representative in a village controlled by hunters. Complete the “Are You Worthy” quest by:

Winning or defending against 3 raids

Killing 50 vampires

Giving 32 gold ingots

Raid Mechanics

To complete the raid requirement, find a village controlled by vampires or a neutral village. Locate the village totem and right-click it to start a raid. You’ll see a defender count appear, and you must eliminate all opposing faction members to win the raid.

Claiming Villages

As you successfully raid villages, they’ll change to hunter control. This is how you claim territory for the hunter faction.

Hunter Lord Ranks

Upon completing your quest, you become a hunter lord. Your ranks progress as follows:

Lieutenant

Captain

Major

Colonel

Brigadier

Cheating to Lord Level 5

If you prefer to skip the lord progression, use the command: /vampirism lord-level 5

Hunter Minions

Recruiting Hunter Minions

Once you become a hunter lord, you can recruit hunter minions. Look for the “Hunter Minion Equipment” quest reward from your village representative. Use this equipment on a regular vampire hunter to convert them into your minion.

Minion Management

Right-click your hunter minion to assign tasks (stay, follow, defend area). You can upgrade their gear, expand inventory slots, and customize their appearance. Hunter minion upgrades are available from representative quests.

Alchemical Items and Crafting

Alchemical Fire

In the alchemical cauldron, you can craft alchemical fire using holy water and gunpowder. This fire burns indefinitely without spreading, making it useful for creating barriers against vampires who fear fire.

Making Holy Water

Holy water is crafted through a multi-step process:

Create pure salt water in a brewing stand using water and pure salt

Make pure salt water using garlic and water in the alchemical cauldron

Find an Altar of Blessings (located in churches)

Use the pure salt water on the altar to create holy water

Advanced Alchemy Table

The alchemy table is an upgraded version of the alchemical cauldron. It allows you to craft specialized oils by combining activated oil with potions:

Slow Falling Oil – Blaze powder + Potion of Slow Falling

Swiftness Oil – Similar crafting process

And many other oil variants

To see specific recipes, use JEI (Just Enough Items) to search for individual oils.

Hunter Armor and Equipment

Hunter Skill Training

To use specialized equipment and tables, you must learn the corresponding skills:

How to use the weapon table

How to use the alchemical cauldron

Enhanced armor skills

Crafting Hunter Armor

You can craft specialized hunter armor pieces like the Helmet of Swiftness. These provide unique benefits but require specific recipes found through crafting tables. Get recipes from:

Hunter village representatives (quest rewards)

Hunter experts in villages (NPCs who trade items)

Garlic Diffusers and Crucifixes

You can craft garlic diffusers to keep vampires away and crucifixes of varying power. Higher-tier crucifixes (like gold ones) require specific skills and significantly slow down vampires.

Hunter Weapons and Crossbows

Hunter Weapon Table

The hunter weapon table is used to craft specialized weapons and armor. You can create items such as helmets of swiftness and other protective gear using this table.

Crossbows and Special Arrows

You can craft crossbows that use special crossbow arrows with unique effects:

Vampire Slayer Arrow – Deals increased damage to vampires (incompatible with Bane of Arthropods or Smite)

Vampire Killer Quarrel – Instantly kills low-level vampire NPCs

Vampire Weapons and Blood Charging

Crafting Blood-Infused Swords

Vampires can craft special swords like the Heart Seeker using blood-infused ingots (made from blood and iron ingots) combined with basic swords. These weapons have unique properties and can be charged with blood to become stronger.

Using the Blood Pedestal

Place a blood pedestal on top of a blood container. Right-click your sword onto the pedestal to charge it with blood from the container. As you use the sword to kill mobs, it will become trained and more powerful.
