Incubus Origin Explained – Medieval Origins Revival
The Incubus is a fire-based origin race from the Medieval Origins Revival mod that offers unique advantages and challenges for players. These dark creatures call the Nether home and wield powerful fire magic, but come with significant weaknesses that require strategic gameplay. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about playing as an Incubus.
What is an Incubus?
Incubi are a fire-based origin race that reside in the Nether. They serve as evil servants with dark power in their own realm, but they’ve paid a significant price for their abilities—they’ve given up their souls and are therefore weak to pure sources of power. You’ll notice their appearance is distinctly sunburned, reflecting their adaptation to darker, hotter environments.
Strengths and Abilities
Fire Mastery
One of the most impressive abilities of the Incubus is their natural affinity for fire. Unlike other origins such as the High Elf that require holding items like Blaze Powder or Coal to cast fire spells, Incubi can shoot fire from their hands without using any items at all. This ability has a very short cooldown, making it exceptionally easy to set your foes ablaze.
Fire feels like home to an Incubus—they take no damage from fire and are immune to its effects. This makes navigating Nether fortresses and lava-filled caves significantly safer than for other origins.

Life Force Exchange
Incubi possess an ability called the Bloodlet exchange, which allows them to convert some of their life force into raw power for a short duration. This ability is activated by pressing G and requires you to be at full health to function properly. When activated, you’ll deal significantly more damage to your enemies in exchange for sacrificing your health.

Nether Affinity
Incubi are considerably stronger in the Nether and will naturally spawn there. This makes them an excellent choice if your modpack requires extensive Nether exploration, as you’ll have a significant advantage in your native dimension.
Weaknesses and Vulnerabilities
Water Damage
Water is the Incubus’s primary weakness. Contact with water will damage you, so swimming and water-based obstacles pose a genuine threat to your survival.

Overworld Weakness
Incubi are not accustomed to dimensions where the sun shines brightly. You take extra damage in the Overworld and are considerably weaker there compared to your Nether performance. However, it’s still possible to survive in the Overworld—it’s just not optimal.
Magical Vulnerabilities
Incubi take extra damage from the Smite enchantment, and healing effects are reversed when applied to you. Harming potions, however, are also reversed. This unusual relationship with potions requires careful resource management.
Is the Incubus Right for You?
The Incubus is an excellent early-game origin, especially if your modpack emphasizes Nether exploration. The unlimited use of your fire spell provides consistent damage output with minimal resource investment, and your immunity to fire makes navigating dangerous terrain much easier. However, if your modpack is light on Nether content or features significant water-based challenges, you may want to consider other origins.
Overall, the Incubus offers nothing too extreme—they’re balanced enough to survive in the Overworld while being genuinely powerful in their native Nether realm.
