How to Upgrade Tools & Gear in Silent Gear

Once you’ve crafted your initial tools in Silent Gear, you’ll want to know how to upgrade them to improve their performance. There are several upgrade methods available that let you enhance damage, durability, and add useful traits to your gear. This guide walks you through each upgrade type and how to apply them effectively.

Coating Upgrades

Coatings are one of the primary ways to upgrade your tools. While wooden coating blueprints exist, we recommend crafting reusable blueprints once you’re able to do so. You’ll need blueprint paper, blue dye, and bits of bobs to create the coating blueprint.

Unlike wooden versions, these blueprints are not single-use, so you can apply multiple coatings with them. To create a coating, place your blueprint in the crafting interface and combine it with a material in a bottle. For example, using Netherite ingots will create a Netherite coating.

When you apply a coating to your tool (like an iron sword), it provides several bonuses. A Netherite coating, for instance, makes the tool fireproof, adds durability, and increases attack damage by a multiplier of 1.33x. So a sword with 5 base damage becomes 5.67 damage when coated.

Silent Gear coatings can apply numerous traits to your gear. To view the complete list of possible traits and their effects, you can craft a Silent Gear guide using a template board and a book. Right-click the guide to access a link to the wiki. The wiki lists traits organized by version (1.21, 1.21 pre, etc.), and you can click individual trait links to see their full effects. Due to the massive number of available traits, we recommend using your browser’s search function (Ctrl+F) to find specific traits rather than browsing through all of them.

Binding Upgrades

Bindings are another upgrade type you can add to most tools and weapons. Materials like string and vines work well for creating bindings. While bindings are primarily required to craft an Elytra, they also provide useful stat bonuses to gear, though these bonuses are generally minor compared to coatings.

Coatings via Smithing Table

In addition to crafting coatings directly, you can apply them using the Smithing Table method. This requires a smithing template, which you can create using a normal Netherite upgrade, blueprint paper, and a netherite board. However, crafting the coating in a regular crafting table is generally simpler and more efficient.

If you need to gather Netherite, you can find it as single ore blocks deep underground. Simply mine these up to collect Netherite ore.

Grip Upgrades

Grips are upgrades that can be added to most tools and weapons. Materials like levers and wool serve as grip materials. While grips typically provide small stat bonuses, the traits they offer can sometimes be surprisingly useful, especially during the early game phase.

Armor Lining Upgrades

For armor pieces, the primary upgrade is the lining. Armor linings function similarly to grips on weapons and tools, applying similar materials and providing comparable bonuses to your armor’s stats and traits.

Tip Upgrades

Tip upgrades can be applied to both tools and weapons using various metals. These upgrades increase damage on weapons and can add useful traits. For tools, tip upgrades often increase harvest level. For example, applying a diamond tip to an iron pickaxe effectively converts it to a diamond-level pickaxe, allowing you to harvest materials that normally require diamond tools.
