The Ultimate Guide to Hexalia

The Ultimate Guide to Hexalia – The Witchcraft-Inspired Minecraft Mod

Hexalia is a stunning witchcraft-inspired Minecraft mod packed with unique biomes, magical flowers, brewing systems, rituals, and more. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to master every mechanic, this complete start-to-finish guide covers everything the mod has to offer — from world generation and flora to brewing potions and performing moonlight rituals.

World Generation: Flowers, Fauna, and Biomes

Spirit Bloom

The first plant you’re likely to encounter is the Spirit Bloom. It can be used to craft Spirit Powder, one of the core crafting ingredients in Hexalia. You can process it using a Mortar and Pestle. Spirit Blooms spawn in the Enchanted Bayou biome added by the mod, but they can also be found in regular Swamp and Mangrove Swamp biomes.

Dream Shroom

The Dream Shroom spawns on mycelium and can be found in Old Growth Pine Taiga and Mushroom Field biomes. It is used to create Dream Paste.

Siren Kelp

The Siren Kelp is a purple flower found at the bottom of Ocean and Deep Ocean biomes. It is used to make Siren Paste. As a bonus, you can actually eat the kelp — doing so grants you Water Breathing for 10 seconds.

Ghost Fan

The Ghost Fan features a beautiful animation and is found exclusively in the Enchanted Bayou biome. It is used to craft Ghost Powder.

Infused Dirt and Infused Farmland

Using some regular dirt combined with Siren Kelp, you can craft Infused Dirt. This special block has several important uses in Hexalia.

When you place a flower such as a Spirit Bloom on plain Infused Dirt (not Infused Farmland), you can right-click it with Bone Meal to duplicate the plant. This works for Dream Shrooms and all the other flowers in the mod — making it a great way to maintain a steady supply.

Infused Farmland

Using a hoe on Infused Dirt converts it into Infused Farmland, which has several advantages over regular farmland:

Crops planted on it do not require a water source and will not revert to dirt without water.

You can walk on top of it without destroying any crops, and a cute bubble effect plays when you step on the block.

You can plant Sugar Cane on it without needing water nearby.

Right-clicking it with a shovel converts it back to Infused Dirt.

Hexalia-specific crops that can be grown on Infused Farmland include: Mandrakes, Salt Sprouts, Sunfire Tomatoes, and Chill Berries.

Hexalia Crops and Special Plants

Salt Sprout

Salt Sprouts normally grow on sand blocks and can be found in a special salt oasis structure that spawns in Desert biomes — a small tidal oasis with salt sprouts growing around it. On Infused Farmland, they no longer require nearby sand to grow. Salt can be crafted into Salt Blocks or decorative Salt Lamps. You can also dig up salt directly from the oasis structures.

Mandrakes

Wild Mandrakes drop Mandrake Seeds when broken, which you can plant on Infused Farmland to grow your own. When used as an item, a Mandrake will stun enemies in an area around you — but make sure you have your ear plugs equipped first, or it will affect you too!

Sunfire Tomatoes

Sunfire Tomatoes are found in Savanna biomes and the salt oasis. Breaking them yields seeds that can be planted. Be careful — stepping on them will temporarily set you on fire. Once grown, the tomatoes can be used in:

Mandrake Stew (along with any vegetable or Mandrake)

A Spicy Sandwich (made with bread and any meat)

Crafting more seeds

Chill Berry Bushes

Chill Berry Bushes are found in Taiga and Snowy Taiga biomes. They don’t have a wild version — the berries themselves can be planted to grow more bushes. Walking on them will freeze you. The berries can be crafted into a Chill Berry Pie, which restores hunger and saturation and grants Fire Protection for 45 seconds.

Moon Berries

Moon Berries are not found through world generation — they are obtained through a ritual (covered later in this guide). After infusing Glow Berries with moonlight, the resulting Moon Berries can be planted and grown from vines, similar to vanilla Glow Berries. Eating a Moon Berry Cookie crafted from them grants you Night Vision for 30 seconds.

The Enchanted Bayou Biome

The Enchanted Bayou is the signature biome of Hexalia. It features two unique tree types: Willow Trees and Cottonwood Trees. Cottonwood trees grow decorative Cottonwood Catkins that don’t have a gameplay function but add great visual detail.

Silkworms and Silk Fiber

You’ll find Silkworm Cocoons in the bayou, and Silkworms may also spawn naturally. They drop Silk Fiber, which is used to craft several items:

Ghost Veil — wear this to shroud yourself from mob detection. It slowly loses durability while you are sneaking with it equipped. Stats are similar to leather armor.

Silk Idol — used in weather-changing rituals.

Bogged Boots

String — craftable using a Mortar and Pestle or cobwebs.

Silk Moths and Rustic Bottles

The bayou is home to beautiful Silk Moths that are attracted to light sources. You can craft Rustic Bottles using clay and glass, then use them to capture the moths. Moths spawn in pink, blue, and white varieties. You can release them back into the world using the rustic bottle.

Witch Weed and Other Bayou Flora

The Enchanted Bayou also grows Witch Weed, which can be used to craft Suspicious Stew and Bogged Boots. All of the mod’s other flowers — including Dream Shrooms and Ghost Fans — also spawn here. You’ll also find decorative pale mushrooms scattered throughout.

Bayou Huts

Occasionally you will find Huts spawning in the bayou biome. These contain a small chest filled with basic Hexalia resources — nothing too powerful, but a useful early-game find.

Brewing in Hexalia

One of the most exciting systems in Hexalia is brewing. All brews last 2 minutes and apply unique effects to the player. Here is a full list of the available brews:

Brew of Spigot Skin — Increases armor toughness and reflects a portion of received damage back at the attacker. Crafted with Ghost Powder, Cactus, and Mandrake.

Brew of Bloodlust — Increases your strength and heals a portion of damage dealt.

Slime Walker — Negates fall damage; pressing sneak will bounce you upward.

Homestead — Teleports you to your spawn point.

Siphon — Increases mining speed and attracts items from greater distances, like a magnet.

Day Bloom — Increases movement speed and regeneration during the day, but exposure to dark areas will damage you.

Arachnid Grace — Allows you to move through cobwebs, climb walls vertically, and be immune to poison.

How to Brew

To brew, you need a Small Cauldron placed over a heat source. Valid heat sources include the mod’s own Rustic Oven, as well as lava, a campfire, or a magma block. Right-click the Small Cauldron, place a Rustic Bottle in the bottom slot, add your three ingredients at the top, and you will receive your finished brew.

You can also craft a Brewing Shelf from Hexalia, which stores up to three brews per shelf. Right-click the shelf to place or retrieve brews.

Rituals in Hexalia

Setting Up a Ritual

Rituals are a core part of Hexalia’s magic system. To prepare a ritual, follow these steps:

Place one piece of Cobbled Deepslate in the center.

Leave one gap on each side, then place a Wooden Plank in the next position outward on each side.

Craft a Stone Dagger and shift right-click the wooden planks to convert them into Ritual Braziers.

Right-click the Cobbled Deepslate with your Hex Focus to convert it into a Ritual Table.

Place Salt underneath each Ritual Brazier.

Surround the ritual setup with Infused Farmland in a diagonal two-by-two pattern on every side, and plant crops on it.

Important ritual rules to remember:

Rituals can only be performed at night.

The crops surrounding the setup must be fully grown — the ritual consumes their energy.

The crops do not have to be Hexalia crops. Regular wheat works fine.

The ritual requires access to moonlight to function.

Ritual of Transmutation

The most common ritual is the Ritual of Transmutation. To perform it, place four ingredients on the outer Ritual Braziers (order does not matter) and one item in the middle on the Ritual Table, then right-click the Ritual Table with your Hex Focus. The ritual completes, consuming the crops’ growth — use Bone Meal or wait for them to regrow before performing another ritual.

As an example, to craft an Air Node, place Tree Resin, Clay Ball, Flint, and a Mandrake on the four outer braziers, then place an Amethyst Shard in the center. Right-click with your Hex Focus to complete the ritual and collect your Air Node.

Tip: Tree Resin can be obtained by using a Stone Dagger on Cottonwood Sapling logs.

Elemental Nodes

Elemental Nodes represent each element and are transmuted from Amethyst Shards through the Ritual of Transmutation. They are commonly used as ingredients in further recipes. For example, the Air Node, Fire Node, and Water Node are all used to craft Weather Idols.

Weather Idols

Using a Silk Idol (made from Silk Fiber and crushed herbs), you can craft three types of Weather Idols to change the weather on demand:

Clear Idol — clears the weather.

Rain Idol — triggers rain.

Storm Idol — triggers a thunderstorm. Requires a Water Node, Silk Idol, and additional items.

Moonlight Ritual

The Moonlight Ritual is a simpler, separate ritual type that uses a single Ritual Brazier on its own — it does not need to be part of a full ritual setup. At night, place an item (such as an Amethyst Shard) on the lone brazier and right-click it with your Hex Focus. The item will be imbued with moonlight over time.

Using this method, you can obtain:

Moon Crystals

Moon Berries

Moon Crystal Blocks

Notable Items in Hexalia

Ancient Seed

The Ancient Seed is a rare item found exclusively in Jungle Pyramid structures. It has a low spawn chance and can also be dug up by a Sniffer. It is used in Transmutation rituals to produce special items.

Kelp Weave Blade

Transmuted from an Ancient Seed, the Kelp Weave Blade inflicts Slowness I on your target for 5 seconds with every hit. It has an enchantability of 22 (same as a golden sword), the durability of an iron sword, but better damage and attack speed — placing it between iron and diamond in terms of power.

Rabbit (Transmutation Item)

Also created through Transmutation, this throwable item inflicts a Bleeding effect on enemies for 5 seconds when thrown at them.

Sage Pendant

The Sage Pendant, available through Transmutation, increases the amount of experience you gain while held in your off-hand. However, each time you gain experience while using it, the item’s durability decreases — so it won’t last forever.

Purifying Salts

Crafted from the salt found in desert oases, Purifying Salts will remove all negative status effects when used — a great utility item to keep on hand.

Ghost Veil

Crafted from Ghost Fans and Silk Fibers, the Ghost Veil shrouds you from mob detection when worn on your body. It has similar armor stats to leather armor. When sneaking while wearing it, the item’s durability will slowly decrease.

Bogged Boots

The Bogged Boots apply Dolphin’s Grace while you are underwater and make you immune to poison damage while equipped. They offer armor stats similar to leather armor.

Willow and Cottonwood Wood Blocks

Hexalia adds Stripped Willow and Stripped Cottonwood wood blocks to the game, sourced from the new trees found in the Enchanted Bayou biome.

Enchanted Flowers

Enchanted Flowers are created through the Ritual of Transmutation using normal Minecraft flowers. For example, a Lily of the Valley transmutes into a Lunar Lily. Each enchanted flower has a unique area effect when placed in the world.

Morforer

When placed, the Morforer transmutes blocks in a 9×9 area around it (not including the block it sits on). Block conversions include:

Magma Blocks → Lava

Snow Blocks → Packed Ice

Ice → Blue Ice

Soul Sand → Soul Soil

Sand → Red Sand

Blackstone → Calcite

Granite → Andesite

Andesite → Diorite

Grass → Podzol

Grim Shade

The Grim Shade converts nearby Skeletons into Wither Skeletons and any Skeleton Skulls (placed or dropped) into Wither Skeleton Skulls. It must be activated by right-clicking it with a Hex Focus. It also has a small chance to spawn Wither Roses in the affected area upon activation.

Nautilite

The Nautilite grants Conduit Power to nearby players within a 16-block radius for 2 minutes. During that time, Guardians and Drowned take magic damage. It also removes Mining Fatigue. Requires activation with a Hex Focus.

Wind Song

Wind Song creates a barrier in a 5×5 area that nullifies incoming projectiles on impact. Requires activation with a Hex Focus.

Lunar Lily

The Lunar Lily is fed a Moon Crystal during the night to activate it. While active, it will periodically apply Bone Meal to nearby crops and saplings for 2 minutes.

Conclusion

Hexalia is a truly impressive witchcraft-inspired mod that brings a wealth of new content to Minecraft — from the atmospheric Enchanted Bayou biome and its unique flora, to deep brewing and ritual systems, powerful enchanted flowers, and a variety of useful gear and items. Whether you’re setting up a ritual circle under the moonlight or brewing up a batch of Arachnid Grace, there’s always something magical to discover. If you’re looking to expand your Minecraft experience with a well-crafted magic mod, Hexalia is absolutely worth exploring.
