Reprocessor Tutorial: Processing Waste in Extreme Reactors

Once your nuclear reactor is up and running, you’ll inevitably encounter a waste problem. This guide will show you how to use the Reprocessor from Extreme Reactors to convert waste products into valuable fuel, creating an efficient multi-stage fuel cycle that maximizes your reactor’s potential.

Understanding Reactor Waste

When you burn Yelorium or Uranium in your reactor (depending on your mod pack), you’ll generate cyanide as a waste product. This waste exits through the reactor’s solid access port when set to outlet mode. While it might seem like junk, this waste is actually the starting point for a powerful recycling system.

Introducing the Reprocessor

The Reprocessor is a machine that transforms your cyanide waste into plutonium—a new fuel source that can power your reactor again. This creates a second life cycle for your Yelorium:

Yelorium burns in the reactor

Produces cyanide as waste

Cyanide is reprocessed into plutonium

Plutonium fuel generates more power

This multi-stage fuel cycle significantly increases efficiency and allows for even more complex automation chains as you progress.

Building Your Reprocessor

Required Components

To build a functional Reprocessor, you’ll need the following items:

Reprocessor Casing (multiple units)

Reprocessor Controller (1)

Reprocessor Waste Injector (1)

Power Port (1)

Reprocessor Output Port (1)

Fluid Injector (1)

Reprocessor Collector (1)

You can quickly find all these items by searching “J.I., extreme, reproase” in your crafting interface. For the center frames, you can use either glass or casings—the choice is yours.

Assembly Structure

The Reprocessor has a specific structure that must be followed for it to function properly.

Outer Frame: Build a 3×3 frame that is 7 blocks tall. This forms the basic skeleton of your machine.

Component Placement Rules

Reprocessor Controller: This is your main access point for the machine. It must be placed in the center section (not on the outer frame edges) and can go on any side or position within that inner area.

Power Port: This supplies energy to the Reprocessor. Place it anywhere in the center frame. Typically, you’ll connect this directly to your reactor for continuous power.

Fluid Injector: This component supplies the fluid needed for reprocessing. For cyanide, you must inject water. The easiest method is using a Mechanical Pipe from the Mekanism mod. If you have Cooking for Blockheads installed, you can use their sink, which provides unlimited free water. Place the fluid injector anywhere in the center section.

Reprocessor Output Port: This is where your reprocessed material (plutonium) exits the machine. It can be placed on any side of the inner frame.

Reprocessor Waste Injector: This component must go on the top center of the machine. This is where you feed in your cyanide waste.

Reprocessor Collector: This component must go on the bottom center of the machine. These two blocks have fixed positions and cannot be moved.

Operating the Reprocessor

Once all components are correctly placed, the machine will automatically activate. You should see indicators showing:

Power status (connected and receiving energy)

Fluid tank level (water)

Processing status

Feed cyanide into the waste injector, ensure water is flowing into the fluid injector, and the machine will begin converting cyanide into plutonium.

Advanced Reprocessing Chains

The Reprocessor can handle multiple materials and creates complex fuel chains. To see all available reprocessing recipes, click on the Reprocessor Controller and press the designated key to view the recipe list.

The Extended Fuel Cycle

While this tutorial focuses on the basic cyanide-to-plutonium conversion, here’s how the full progression works:

Cyanide + Water → Plutonium (your starting point)

Plutonium + Cyanide Liquid → Ludicrite (requires a Fluidizer to convert cyanide to liquid)

Ludicrite + Magnetite → Radiculite (magnetite is the waste product from plutonium processing)

Radiculite + Rosinite → Inanite (the final material in the chain)

This progression shows how you can create increasingly efficient fuel cycles as you unlock more machines and materials. Each stage produces a waste product that feeds into the next stage, creating a closed-loop system.
