Getting Started: The Grinder Crafter

The first thing you’ll need is a Grinder Crafter. To craft this, you’ll need a mob catcher, which is basically a glass jar contraption. Once you have one, you can place down your Grinder Crafter.

Inside the Grinder Crafter, this is where you’ll make your grinders. You can create several types:

Zombie Grinder

Blaze Grinder

Pigling Grinder

Using the Instruction Book

If you press the little book icon in the Grinder Crafter, you’ll see there are different chapters of instructions:

Crafting Your First Grinder: The Zombie Grinder

To make a Zombie Grinder, you’ll need:

Mob Catcher (Zombie)

Obtaining Mob Catchers

Mob catchers are glass jar contraptions that you need to catch mobs. Here’s how to use them:

Hold the mob catcher in your action bar (hot bar)

Some players report better success holding it in their hand

If you can’t get it working, try keeping it in your inventory instead

Catching Your First Zombie

Make sure you kill the zombie with the mob catcher in your action bar or inventory. You will get the essence of a zombie. You can keep the mob catcher anywhere in your inventory—it doesn’t need to be in your hot bar specifically.

How Many Mob Catchers Do You Need?

You’ll need to kill 16 zombies with your mob catcher to get 16 Zombie Mob Catchers. This is worth the effort because once you do, you’ll get unlimited zombies from your grinder.

Crafting World Growth Potions

World Growth Potions are very easy to make. You’ll need:

Compounder

Short Grass

Once you have all your materials, craft your Zombie Grinder and place it down.

Setting Up Your First Mob Farm

Once your grinder is placed, note that you can only interact with it from the bottom—not from the top.

Powering Your Grinder

Your grinder has a fuel bar that can take 4 energy. However, it unfortunately doesn’t connect to other mods. Instead, here’s what you can do:

Shift-click a hopper onto the grinder

Power it with coal

Or manually put coal into the coal slot

For advanced setups: use Applied Logistics with export bus and output bus routing to the coal hopper

The main downside of this mod is that it requires manual coal input or hopper management, but it’s a small trade-off for the power you gain.

Speed Upgrades

Your grinder is quite slow by default. You can use speed upgrades to increase its output. There are four tiers:

World Speed Upgrade: Crafted with overworld materials

Nether Speed Upgrade: Crafted with nether materials

End Speed Upgrade: Crafted with end materials

Creative Speed Upgrade: Cannot be obtained (for creative mode only)

Simply put these upgrades in the upgrade slot to significantly speed up your grinder.

Collecting Your Outputs

Your Zombie Grinder will produce:

Tiny Essence

You can place a chest beneath the grinder, and it will automatically collect all items for you.

Understanding the Essence Progression System

The key to this mod is understanding the essence system. Different mobs give different essences, and you use those essences to create more advanced grinders. Here’s how it works:

Tier 1: Tiny Essence

Mobs that give Tiny Essence include:

You can also shift right-click tiny essence to convert it into experience for your character.

Note: The Dragon Grinder is very slow, even compared to other grinders, but this is understandable given what it’s producing. You can see what the controller needs and makes by checking the controller interface.

The Egg Crafter: Making Spawn Eggs

Once you’ve created your Dragon Grinder, you can create the Egg Crafter. This is the final crafting station in the progression.

How the Egg Crafter Works

The Egg Crafter allows you to create spawn eggs using the outputs from your spawners. For example, to make a Chicken Spawn Egg, you need:

1x Chicken Essence (or similar)

1x Big Essence

1x Dragon Egg

1x Nether Star

If you add speed upgrades to the Egg Crafter or create multiple crafters, you can produce Dragon Eggs and other spawn eggs very quickly.
