Learn how to quadruple your ore processing in Mekanism with this comprehensive guide. This tutorial walks you through the complete setup of a 4X ore processing line, starting from the basics and building up to the complex hydrogen chloride production system required for maximum efficiency.
Understanding the Production Line Concept
The easiest way to visualize ore processing is to think of it as a production line. In this guide, we’ll use colored wool to represent different material flows. The red wool line represents your main ore production line—ore enters at one end and travels through a series of machines, with additional components added to the sides at specific points to increase processing efficiency.
The key to understanding the difference between doubling, tripling, and quadrupling your ores is recognizing that each step adds extra machines to the side of your main production line. Once you grasp this concept, the entire system becomes much more manageable.
Basic Machine Setup
Start by arranging these machines in sequence along your production line:
Chemical Injection Chamber (input)
Purification Chamber
Crusher
Enrichment Chamber
Energized Smelter
Chest or storage (output)
If you’re a beginner, space these machines out generously to give yourself room to work. Connect them using Logistical Transporters. This basic linear arrangement will serve as the foundation for all your ore processing multipliers.

2X Ore Processing (Doubling)
To double your ore output, the setup is straightforward:
Feed raw ore into an Enrichment Chamber
Pass the output into an Energized Smelter
That’s all you need for 2X processing. The ore simply passes through these two machines and emerges as ingots at double the normal yield.
3X Ore Processing (Tripling)
To triple your ore, add two more machines to your line:
Chemical Injection Chamber (ore input)
Purification Chamber
Crusher
Enrichment Chamber
Energized Smelter
Setting Up Oxygen Production
The Purification Chamber requires oxygen to function. To generate oxygen for your 3X setup:
Use a water pump (or any mechanism to provide water)
Feed water into an Electrolytic Separator
The machine outputs hydrogen from the left side and oxygen from the right side
Route the oxygen into your Purification Chamber
Set up overflow tanks on both hydrogen and oxygen outputs to prevent backing up if either gas accumulates faster than it’s used. This is your oxygen line—represented in blue in the setup visualization.

Once oxygen flows into the Purification Chamber, your ore (now shards) converts into clumps, which then travel through the Crusher, Enrichment Chamber, and Smelter to become ingots. This setup triples your ore yield.
4X Ore Processing (Quadrupling)
Quadrupling requires one additional machine on your main production line: the Chemical Injection Chamber (for hydrogen chloride injection). The complexity lies not in the machine itself, but in producing hydrogen chloride.

Hydrogen Chloride Production System
Making hydrogen chloride is the most complex part of the 4X setup. You’ll need three main components: a thermal evaporation chamber, an electrolytic separator (for chlorine extraction), and a chemical infuser.
Building the Thermal Evaporation Chamber
The thermal evaporation chamber converts water and heat into brine:
Build a 4×4 structure using Thermal Evaporation Blocks
You can leave the corners empty
Optional: Place Advanced Solar Generators in the corners to speed up the process
Install one controller block and two valve blocks

Powering the Thermal Evaporation Chamber
To heat the chamber:
Connect energy to a Resistive Heater
Set the heater target temperature to 500°F (you can adjust this value)
Use a Thermodynamic Conductor to pipe heat from the heater into one valve of the thermal evaporator
Use another Thermodynamic Conductor to pump water into the second valve
The controller will convert water and heat into brine

Important: If you’re in a cold biome, you’ll definitely need the Resistive Heater. In hot biomes, you may generate enough heat naturally, but a heater ensures consistent production.
Extracting Chlorine from Brine
Once you have brine, extract chlorine:
Output brine from a third valve of the thermal evaporator
Feed brine into an Electrolytic Separator (same machine used for oxygen/hydrogen)
The left output is sodium (you can dump this—it’s not needed)
The right output is chlorine (this is what you need)
Set up overflow for excess sodium

Combining Hydrogen and Chlorine into Hydrogen Chloride
Finally, create the hydrogen chloride:
Take the hydrogen from your earlier Electrolytic Separator (the one producing oxygen for the Purification Chamber)
Take the chlorine from your brine Electrolytic Separator
Feed hydrogen into the left side of a Chemical Infuser
Feed chlorine into the right side of the Chemical Infuser
The Chemical Infuser produces hydrogen chloride (shown as a dark blue pipe)
Output this hydrogen chloride into your Chemical Injection Chamber

Pipe Color Reference:
Red = Ore line (main production)
Blue = Oxygen line
Grey = Hydrogen line
Dark Blue = Hydrogen Chloride line
Complete 4X Processing Flow
Here’s what happens when everything is connected:
Raw ore enters the Chemical Injection Chamber, where it meets hydrogen chloride
Ore becomes shards
Shards travel to the Purification Chamber (oxygen is added here)
Shards become clumps
Clumps travel to the Crusher
Clumps become dirty dust
Dirty dust travels to the Enrichment Chamber
Dirty dust becomes clean dust
Clean dust travels to the Energized Smelter
Clean dust becomes ingots (4X output)
