How to Pump Water Using Mekanism

Looking to automate water pumping in Minecraft? The Mekanism mod makes it easy with the Electric Pump—a powerful tool for extracting water from sources and transporting it wherever you need it. This guide walks you through crafting your first pump, setting it up, and optimizing it with upgrades.

Crafting the Electric Pump

The Electric Pump is the core component for water extraction in Mekanism. To craft one, you’ll need the following materials using default Mekanism recipes:

1 Bucket

Osmium Ingots

1 Steel Casing (crafted separately)

Infused Alloys (created in a Metallurgic Confuser)

Once you’ve gathered these materials and crafted your Electric Pump, you’re ready to set up your water extraction system.

Installing and Powering the Electric Pump

Position the Electric Pump directly above a water source block. The pump will automatically begin extracting water once you provide it with power. To supply electricity, connect Universal Cables from Mekanism to the green section on the back of the pump. These cables will carry power directly into the pump’s power input.

Setting Up Water Output

To transport the pumped water, attach a pipe to the top exit port of the Electric Pump. Mechanical Pipes from Mekanism work perfectly for this purpose. The pump will automatically push water through the connected pipe system. In this example, water flows directly into a Fluid Tank for storage.

You can check the pump’s inventory at any time to see how much water it contains. The GUI will display the current fill level of the pump.

Managing Pump Security

The Electric Pump includes built-in security features. By opening the pump’s interface, you can lock it to prevent unauthorized access or modifications. This is useful in multiplayer environments or to protect your setup from accidents.

Upgrading Your Electric Pump

Mekanism allows you to enhance your Electric Pump with various upgrades to improve performance and efficiency:

Speed Upgrades

Install Speed Upgrades to increase the pumping rate. With these upgrades, your pump will extract water much faster than the standard rate.

Energy Upgrades

If you add Speed Upgrades, strongly consider adding Energy Upgrades alongside them. Energy Upgrades increase the energy efficiency of the machinery, offsetting the increased power consumption from faster pumping speeds.

Filter Upgrades

Filter Upgrades allow you to distinguish between different water types. For example, you can filter Heavy Water from regular water, giving you precise control over what your pump extracts.
