How To Get Void Or Vacuos Essence In Thaumcraft 6
How To Get Void (Vacuos) Essence in Thaumcraft 6
Vacuos — also known as Void Essence or Void Essentia — is one of the trickier aspects to obtain in Thaumcraft 6. Unlike more common essences, it requires specific items that aren’t always easy to come by. In this guide, we’ll walk you through every method to get Vacuos, from the rarest sources all the way down to the easiest free options available to any player.
What Is Vacuos (Void Essence)?
Vacuos is an aspect in Thaumcraft 6 associated with emptiness and void. It is required for various infusion crafting recipes and can be stored in Warded Jars or extracted via Alembics. Because of its unique sources, it can feel difficult to obtain early on — but there are some surprisingly simple methods once you know what to look for.
Best Sources for Vacuos Essence
Bedrock (Rare — Modpack Dependent)
If you are playing a modpack that includes a way to obtain Bedrock, this is actually the single best source of Vacuos. One piece of Bedrock yields 25 Vacuos, making it extremely efficient. However, this is unlikely to be available in most standard setups, so don’t count on it.

Shulker Boxes
Any Shulker Box will give you 7 Vacuos when processed. This is a solid mid-game option, though it does require you to have visited the End dimension to obtain one.

Chests
A standard wooden Chest yields 6 Vacuos and is extremely easy to craft from basic wood. This is a reliable early-game option if you haven’t yet been to the End.

Glass Bottles (Recommended Early-Game Method)
Glass Bottles are arguably the easiest and most cost-effective source of Vacuos. Each Glass Bottle provides 5 Vacuos, and since glass is essentially free to produce, a single stack of three bottles gives you 15 Vacuos at virtually no cost. This makes Glass Bottles the go-to early-game farming method for this essence.

How To Process Glass Bottles in the Crucible
To get started quickly, simply throw your Glass Bottles into a Crucible. Tossing in a few bottles will immediately begin generating Vacuos essentia inside the Crucible, which you can then see accumulating in the interface.

Using an Arcane Alembic Setup for Efficient Essentia Collection
If you need Vacuos for infusion crafting or want to store it in Warded Jars, the most efficient approach is to set up an Arcane Smelter (also referred to as the Ascension Smelter in the tutorial) connected to Alembics. This setup automatically smelts items into their essentia components, which then accumulate and are held inside the Alembics for later use.

Once your Alembics have collected 10 or more Vacuos, you can use a Glass Phial and right-click on the Alembic to extract the essentia. Note that you must have at least 10 Vacuos stored before extraction is possible.

Extracting Vacuos From Warded Jars
If you have already routed your essentia flow into Warded Jars, you can still retrieve the Vacuos using a Glass Phial. Simply right-click on the Warded Jar containing the Vacuos to extract it into the phial, ready for use.

Using Vacuos in Infusion Crafting
If your goal is to use Vacuos in infusion crafting, place a Warded Jar filled with Vacuos near your Infusion Matrix. The matrix will draw from the jar automatically during the crafting process, consuming the essentia as needed.

Summary
Getting Vacuos (Void Essence) in Thaumcraft 6 is easier than it first appears. While Bedrock is the most efficient single source, it’s rarely accessible. Instead, rely on Glass Bottles for a cheap and renewable early-game supply, or use Chests as a simple alternative. For mid-to-late game players, Shulker Boxes offer a great yield. Set up an Arcane Smelter with Alembics to automate collection, and use Glass Phials to extract the essentia whenever you’re ready to use it in infusion crafting.
