How to Get Oil in PneumaticCraft
Once you’ve successfully set up your pressure chamber in PneumaticCraft, the next logical step is to start drilling for oil. This guide walks you through the complete process of locating, extracting, and collecting crude oil using essential PneumaticCraft machinery, from your first gas lift to transporting oil back to your base.
Finding Oil in Your World
Oil can be found throughout your world in open areas and becomes increasingly abundant as you dig deeper underground. You may also discover that other mods in your ModPack generate their own oil variants. The great news is that PneumaticCraft is designed intelligently enough to recognize and collect any type of oil, regardless of which mod generated it. Don’t worry if you can’t locate PneumaticCraft-specific oil—the mod will work with alternative sources.
Setting Up Your Oil Drilling System
Step 1: Locate Your Oil Deposit
Begin by exploring your world and identifying an oil deposit. Once you’ve found a suitable location with visible crude oil, you’re ready to proceed with the extraction setup.

Step 2: Install a Gas Lift
The gas lift is a simple but essential component for oil extraction. Place your gas lift directly over the oil deposit. You can add peat or other materials around the area, but the critical positioning is having the gas lift centered over the oil source.

Step 3: Supply Pressure to the Gas Lift
Your gas lift requires pressure to operate. By this point, you should have a basic compressor set up. An air compressor works well for this purpose. To optimize your setup:
Fill your air compressor with fuel
Add a Speed Upgrade to increase extraction rate
Install a Security Upgrade to prevent pressure from exceeding your desired threshold

Step 4: Connect Pressure Tubes
Attach pressure tubes to any of the input holes on your gas lift. You can see exactly where the pressure is flowing, making it easy to direct it into the gas lift. As pressure builds, you’ll notice the gas lift beginning to fill with crude oil.

Transporting Oil to Your Base
If your oil deposit is far from your base, you’ll need a way to transport the crude oil back home. The Liquid Hopper from PneumaticCraft is the ideal tool for this job.
Using the Liquid Hopper
The liquid hopper is omnidirectional and requires proper orientation to work effectively:
Face the hopper toward the block you want to extract from (the opposite direction of where you want liquid to flow out)
To extract from the gas lift, you must right-click on the block above the gas lift from below
Use the PneumaticCraft Wrench to rotate the hopper and adjust its facing direction

The liquid hopper has a clever feature: you can change its mode so that it leaves a bucket in the internal tank, effectively filtering the liquid. Like a standard hopper, it functions omnidirectionally once oriented correctly.

Storing Your Crude Oil
For convenient transport, place a small fluid tank on top of the liquid hopper. The hopper will automatically feed crude oil into the tank, allowing you to collect up to 32 buckets of crude oil. This setup makes it simple to transport large quantities of oil back to your base for processing.

Processing Crude Oil
Once you’ve collected your crude oil, the next step is processing it in a refinery. The refinery uses heat to convert crude oil into more useful products:
Diesel
Kerosene
Gasoline
LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas)

Summary
You now have a complete understanding of oil extraction in PneumaticCraft. The process involves locating an oil deposit, setting up a gas lift with pressure supply, using a liquid hopper for transport, and storing your crude oil in a fluid tank. From there, you can process the crude oil in a refinery to create diesel, kerosene, gasoline, and LPG—all valuable fuels for your PneumaticCraft operations.
