Understanding the Foundry

How the Foundry Works

The Foundry operates almost identically to the Smeltry, with one critical difference in construction. While the Smeltry doesn’t require corners to function properly, the Foundry does need flooring on the walls and corners to work correctly. If your Foundry isn’t functioning, ensure you’ve built the floor and corner blocks as walls.

Building the Foundry

To construct a Foundry, you’ll need Scorched Bricks. These are made from Nether Ground, which consists of Magma Blocks, Soul Sand, and Gravel combined together. The recipe is straightforward once you gather the Nether materials.

Key Foundry Mechanics

Unlike the Smeltry, the Foundry will not alloy metals together. For example, if you place Silver and Gold in the Foundry, you won’t get Electrum. The Foundry is purely for smelting materials that require extreme heat, not for alloying processes.

Obtaining Blazing Blood

Blazing Blood is the fuel you need to smelt Tier 4 materials like Nether Cobalt. There are several methods to obtain it:

Method 1: Burning Blazes in the Foundry

The most direct (though challenging) method is to burn a Blaze in your Foundry. The recommended approach is to locate a Blaze Spawner in a Nether Fortress and position your Foundry nearby so that Blazes fall directly into it. When they burn up and die, they produce Blazing Blood.

Method 2: Trading with Piglins

A more sustainable approach involves trading with Piglins using Ender Pearls (or similar trade goods). Piglins will give you Ender Balls in exchange. You can then melt down these Ender Balls in the Foundry with Blazing Blood to obtain more Blazing Blood and Ender Crystals. This creates a renewable cycle, but you’ll need a starter amount of Blazing Blood first.

Method 3: Melting Blaze Heads

Another option is to obtain Blaze Heads and melt them down in the Foundry. To get Blaze Heads, you’ll need the Severing Modifier on a melee weapon. A Cleaver (available in the Tinkers Anvil) works particularly well for this purpose, as it can sever Blaze heads, feet, and feathers when used against Blazes.

Smelting and Alloying in the Foundry

Once you have Blazing Blood, you can begin smelting Tier 4 materials. When you melt down certain ores in the Foundry, you may receive secondary resources. For example, melting Diamond Ore yields one Diamond plus free nuggets of Molten Debris.

Molten Cobalt Alloys

Molten Cobalt can be alloyed with various materials to create powerful substances:

Molten Cobalt + Molten Quartz + Molten Copper = Molten Hepatizon

Molten Cobalt + Molten Debris (from Ancient Debris or Diamonds) = Molten Manullyn

Molten Cobalt + Molten Gold + Magma = Molten Queenslime

Checking Recipes with the Fantastic Foundry Book

To easily reference all Foundry recipes and Tier 4 materials, craft the Fantastic Foundry book using Nether Ground and a Book. This book displays all available smelting and alloying combinations, along with the heat requirements (Blazing Blood vs. Lava).
