Clibano Tutorial – Forbidden & Arcanus

How to Build and Use the Clibano – Forbidden & Arcanus Mod Guide

If you’ve been collecting souls in the Forbidden & Arcanus mod, it’s time to put them to work. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about the Clibano — a powerful multi-block furnace used to craft special alloys and ingredients you’ll need on your journey toward building a forge. Let’s get into it.

What Is the Clibano?

The Clibano is a multi-block furnace from the Forbidden & Arcanus mod. Think of it as an advanced smelting structure that can process unique alloys and materials that a regular furnace simply cannot handle. It’s a key stepping stone toward crafting a forge, which requires several special ingredients — some of which can only be made inside the Clibano.

Step 1 – Mining the Required Ores

Before you can build anything, you’ll need to gather a large supply of four specific ores. Make sure to collect plenty of each:

Dark Stone – Spawns very deep underground near lava lakes, around Y level -50 and below.

Stella Arcanum – Found between Y -44 and Y 42. Be careful — it explodes when mined.

Arcane Crystal Ore – Rare. Spawns only within a specific narrow Y coordinate range (check your in-game guide for exact coordinates).

Runic Stone – Spawns at the very bottom of the world, at Y 2 and below.

You can look up exact spawn details for each ore by searching for “Forbidden” in your in-game mod guide or recipe viewer. It will display the precise Y-level ranges for each material.

Step 2 – Crafting the Building Blocks

Once you have enough Dark Stone, you’ll need to process it into two forms before building the Clibano structure:

Polished Dark Stone

Polished Dark Stone Bricks

Both can be crafted from Dark Stone using standard crafting table recipes. Stock up on both — you’ll need them for the full multi-block structure.

Step 3 – Building the Clibano Multi-Block Structure

The Clibano is a 3-layer multi-block structure. Here’s how each layer is arranged:

Bottom Layer

Place Polished Dark Stone Bricks in a cross pattern in the centre, and fill the four corners with Polished Dark Stone.

Middle Layer

The entire middle row is filled with Polished Dark Stone Bricks. This is also where the Clibano Core goes — place it in the very centre block of this layer.

Top Layer

The top layer mirrors the bottom layer exactly — Polished Dark Stone Bricks in the cross pattern through the middle, and Polished Dark Stone in the corners.

Step 4 – Crafting the Clibano Core

The Clibano Core is the heart of the structure. To craft it, you’ll need:

Dark Stone

Blast Furnace

Combine these in the crafting table using the Clibano Core recipe. Once crafted, place it in the centre block of the middle layer of your structure.

Step 5 – Activating the Clibano with Mundabitur Dust

Once the full multi-block structure is in place with the core at its centre, you need to activate it. To do this, right-click the Clibano Core while holding Mundabitur Dust.

How to Craft Mundabitur Dust

Mundabitur Dust requires the following ingredients:

Arcane Crystal Dust – made by smelting Arcane Crystals

Bone Meal

Phantom Membrane

Gunpowder

Blaze Powder

Redstone Dust

Note: If you are playing this mod inside a modpack, the recipe may have been adjusted by Almost Unified or another recipe harmonisation mod. Always double-check the recipe in JEI or your in-game guide.

With Mundabitur Dust in hand, right-click the core. If the structure is built correctly, the multi-block will fully form and the Clibano will activate.

Step 6 – Using the Clibano

Now that your Clibano is active, you can open its interface and start smelting. The Clibano works like a furnace but has additional slots with specific purposes:

Soul Slot – Place the souls you’ve gathered here to power certain advanced recipes.

Fuel Slot – Standard combustible fuel goes here (e.g. coal).

Top Left Slot – Reserved for special items like the Artisan Relic.

The Artisan Relic

To unlock alloy crafting inside the Clibano, you’ll need an Artisan Relic. This item can be found inside villager buildings — specifically those belonging to Armorer, Toolsmith, or Weaponsmith villagers. Place it in the top left slot of the Clibano interface. It saves experience and allows you to create new alloys.

Step 7 – Crafting Obsidian Steel Ingots

One of the most important things you’ll make in the Clibano is Obsidian Steel Ingots. To craft them, add the following into the Clibano:

Raw Iron (souls are not required for this specific recipe)

Obsidian

Artisan Relic in the top left slot

The Clibano will smelt these together and produce Obsidian Steel Ingots — a key crafting material for later progression in the mod.

Summary

The Clibano is an essential multi-block structure in Forbidden & Arcanus that bridges early soul collection with advanced alloy crafting. To get it up and running: mine Dark Stone, Stella Arcanum, Arcane Crystal Ore, and Runic Stone; build the three-layer structure using Polished Dark Stone and Polished Dark Stone Bricks; craft and place the Clibano Core; activate it with Mundabitur Dust; and then use the Artisan Relic to begin crafting alloys like Obsidian Steel. With this structure in place, you’re well on your way to building the forge and advancing further into the mod.
