Agritech Evolved Complete Guide: Planters, Biomass, and Power Generation
Agritech Evolved is a powerful Minecraft farming and automation mod that takes crop growing well beyond vanilla mechanics. Whether you want to automate saplings, seeds, berries, or sugarcane, this mod gives you the tools to do it — and even lets you generate power from your harvest. This guide walks you through every core feature, from the basic planter all the way to capacitors and cross-mod compatibility, tested on Minecraft version 26.2.
Getting Started: The Basic Planter
The first machine you’ll work with is the Basic Planter. Place it in the world, then put a chest directly beneath it — the planter will automatically output harvested items into that chest without needing a hopper, which is a great quality-of-life feature right from the start.

Open the Basic Planter’s GUI and you’ll see slots for your saplings, seeds, or vegetables, along with a soil input. A growth percentage indicator shows you how far along your crops are. You can also click View Recipes to browse all 29 supported plant types, including:
- Saplings
- Seeds
- Berries
- Sugarcane
- Sunflowers (which yield additional sunflowers on harvest for example)

The Basic Planter will function without any fertilizer, but adding one dramatically improves performance — which brings us to the biomass system.
Fertilizers: Crude Biomass and Biomass
Crude Biomass
The first fertilizer tier is Crude Biomass, crafted using a simple recipe (check in-game for exact ingredients). Crude Biomass serves a dual purpose: it can be used as a fertilizer in your planter, and it can be burned to generate Redstone Flux (RF). However, its energy stats are intentionally weak — it burns for 2.5 seconds at 100 RF per second, making it a very inefficient fuel source.
As a fertilizer, Crude Biomass increases your crop growth speed by 10% and gives a 10% yield bonus. Hold Shift while hovering over it in your inventory to see full stats.

Biomass
The upgraded fertilizer is simply called Biomass — no “crude” prefix. This version delivers a significantly better 40% growth speed and yield bonus, making it worth the extra effort to produce. Biomass is crafted inside a Composter rather than a standard crafting table.

The Composter: Turning Waste Into Biomass
The Composter is where you convert raw plant materials — such as oak saplings — into usable Biomass. Feed it any compostable items, and your Biomass output will collect in the designated output slot.

The Composter can run without power, but it will operate much more slowly without an energy supply. Connecting it to a power source speeds things up considerably.
Speed Upgrades
The mod includes Speed Upgrades that go all the way up to Mark III. Each tier requires the previous version plus increasingly expensive materials. Inserting a Speed Upgrade into the Composter’s upgrade slot makes it process dramatically faster — though this comes at the cost of higher power consumption.

Compacted Biomass
You can also craft Compacted Biomass, which comes in brick form. It offers additional recipe options and serves as a denser storage format for your biomass production. Check the in-game recipe viewer for the exact crafting pattern.
Generating Power: The Biomass Burner
The Biomass Burner is your primary power generation block. It accepts both Crude Biomass and regular Biomass as fuel:
- Crude Biomass — burns quickly and generates less energy overall.
- Biomass — burns for much longer and generates significantly more RF.

In a simple Agritech Evolved-only setup, you can place your Biomass Burner directly adjacent to other machines like the Composter, and they will share power automatically. If you have other mods installed — such as Mekanism — you can pipe the RF output into any compatible network using standard energy conduits.

Storing Energy: Capacitors
Agritech Evolved includes its own energy storage blocks called Capacitors, available in three tiers:
- Capacitor Tier 1 — basic energy storage
- Capacitor Tier 2 — holds more energy
- Capacitor Tier 3 — maximum energy storage capacity
You can run multiple Biomass Burners feeding into a bank of Capacitors, then pipe that stored energy out with a compatible mod into any machine or system you need powered.

Upgrading Your Farm: The Advanced Planter
Once you’ve got power generation running, it’s time to upgrade to the Advanced Planter. It works exactly like the Basic Planter, but with two important differences: it requires electricity to operate, and it has dedicated upgrade slots. You can slot in:
- Yield Upgrades — increases the number of items harvested per cycle
- Speed Upgrades — reduces the time between harvests

Infused Farmland: A Soil Upgrade Worth Crafting
Both the Basic and Advanced Planters support Infused Farmland, a special soil block that increases growth speed by 1.5x. To craft it, first make Mulch (recipe available in the in-game recipe viewer), then either:
- Use a hoe directly on the Mulch in the world, or
- Combine a hoe with Mulch in a crafting grid
Either method produces Infused Farmland, which you can place beneath your planters for a passive growth speed boost.

Summary: Everything Agritech Evolved Offers
Agritech Evolved is a well-rounded farming mod that scales from a simple, power-free Basic Planter all the way to a fully automated, RF-powered agricultural complex. Here’s a quick recap of everything the mod includes:
- Basic Planter — no power required, 29 supported plant types, auto-outputs to a chest below
- Crude Biomass — basic fertilizer (+10% growth/yield) and weak RF fuel
- Biomass — upgraded fertilizer (+40% growth/yield), crafted in the Composter
- Composter — converts plant materials into Biomass; supports Speed Upgrades up to Mark III
- Compacted Biomass — denser biomass brick with multiple crafting uses
- Biomass Burner — generates RF from Crude Biomass or Biomass
- Capacitors (Tier 1–3) — energy storage with increasing capacity
- Advanced Planter — electricity-powered, supports Yield and Speed Upgrades
- Infused Farmland — soil upgrade providing a 1.5x growth speed bonus
- Cross-mod compatibility — works with mods like Mekanism for energy piping
