Revenant Origin Explained – Medieval Origins Revival
The Revenant is one of the most interesting and coolest origins you can choose in Medieval Origins Revival. This origin offers a unique playstyle centered around summoning undead creatures and manipulating life and death. If you’re looking for a powerful and engaging origin with impressive abilities, the Revenant is definitely worth exploring.
Overview and Lore
Revenants are misfortune souls who suffered an unpaying debt. In their darkest hour, they returned to life. As a result, they become obsessed with manipulating life and death in other creatures. This thematic foundation shapes all of their abilities and interactions in the game world.
Core Abilities
Summon (Press G)
The primary ability of the Revenant is summoning undead creatures while holding specific items. You can summon up to five combat summons at a time, and each summon lasts for ten minutes.
Here are the summonable creatures and their requirements:
Skeleton: Requires 4 bones in your main hand
Skeleton Horse: Requires a saddle and bones
Zombie: Requires specific materials
Zombie Horse: Requires specific materials
To summon, hold the required items and press G. For example, holding four bones and pressing G will summon a skeleton companion that lasts for ten minutes.

Command Undead (Press B)
Once you’ve summoned undead creatures, you can control them using the B key to cycle between commands. Your summons can:
Sit: Keep them stationary in one location
Follow: Have them follow you around
Teleport: Bring them directly to your location
Note that these key bindings may not be set by default, so you may need to configure them in your controls settings.

Summon Enhancements
Your summoned creatures can be equipped with weapons and armor, making them formidable allies in combat. However, keep in mind that zombies cannot use bows. Hover over ability badges in-game for more detailed information about each summon type.
Resource Management – Soul and Blood Power
Soul and Blood Power Resource
Revenants use a unique resource called Soul and Blood Power. This resource charges over time and can be replenished more quickly by consuming bones and rotten flesh from undead creatures. This is an unsettling but effective mechanic for empowering your summons.

Empowerment Through Consumption
When you consume the flesh and bones of undead, you can empower the next summon of the same type. As your Soul and Blood Power accumulates:
Combat creatures: Their duration extends, and at max power they become permanent
Undead steeds: Their attributes are enhanced at max power
Advanced Abilities
Reaper’s Ward
At will, you can raise a circle of inert skeletons that act as a temporary shield. This is an incredibly powerful defensive ability that creates a protective barrier around you when activated.

Essence Extraction
Hit a living creature to drain its life force. The damage you deal scales with your accumulated Soul and Blood Power. When hit, Revenants build power which allows them to siphon life from their enemies, creating a life-steal mechanic that makes them increasingly dangerous as combat progresses.

Weaknesses and Drawbacks
Social Interactions
Villagers: Refuse to trade with you due to negative reputation
Iron Golems: Will attack you on sight
Pillagers: Tolerate you, though tenuously
Environmental Effects
Revenants have a “black thumb” effect—you cannot plant crops, and they wilt when you touch them. This is a significant drawback if you rely on farming for resources.
Sleep and Rest
Revenants cannot sleep. According to the lore, they are too scared to dream of what they wish they did not know, making rest impossible.
Combat Vulnerabilities
Smite Damage: You take extra damage from the Smite enchantment
Inverted Healing: Healing effects are inverted (they damage you instead)
Harming Effects: You receive inverted effects from harming potions
Poison and Regeneration Immunity: You are immune to poison and regeneration effects
Mob Damage: Most mobs deal more damage to you due to your obsession with the spirit realm

Aquatic Vulnerability
Like other undead creatures, Revenants take extra damage from water-based effects and are vulnerable in aquatic environments.
Overall Assessment
Despite these numerous drawbacks, Revenants are extremely tough and formidable due to their summoning and life-steal abilities. The combination of permanent undead companions, defensive shields, and life-draining mechanics makes them one of the strongest origins available. If you can manage the social and environmental penalties, the Revenant offers an incredibly rewarding and powerful playstyle.
