Primitive Age Guide – Assembly Line Machines

Primitive Age Guide: Assembly Line Machines

Welcome to the Primitive Age! This is the foundational stage of assembly line progression in the mod. You’ll start with basic machines and gradually unlock more advanced technology as you progress through the Crank Age and Electric Age. This guide will walk you through the essential crafting recipes and processes to master the Primitive Age and prepare for the next phase.

Finding Titanium Ore

Your first task is to locate titanium ore. This resource spawns deep underground and is fairly rare—comparable to diamonds. Be prepared to spend some time mining before you find your first deposits. Once you’ve collected enough, you can begin crafting the foundational machines.

Creating and Using the Fluid Bath

The fluid bath is your first essential machine. This is the primary tool for mixing materials in the Primitive Age. Craft one and place it down, then fill it with a bucket of water.

You’ll also need a wooden stirring stick to operate the fluid bath with water. Later on, you can upgrade to a pure iron or steel stirring stick to work with lava.

Making Silt

Silt is a crucial intermediate material. To make it in the fluid bath:

Ensure water is in the fluid bath

Right-click gravel into the bath

Right-click sand into the bath

The mixture should change color, indicating a correct recipe

Right-click repeatedly with your stirring stick until silt appears

Important: If you add the wrong combination of materials, the mixture will turn black and you’ll get sludge instead. Simply refill your water bucket and try again.

Crafting Titanium Ingots and Silt Bricks

With silt collected, you need to prepare two more items:

Titanium ingots: Smelt your mined titanium ore in a furnace

Silt bricks: Made from smooth silt (crafted from four silt). Once you have smooth silt, craft it into silt bricks

Building and Using the Manual Grinder

The manual grinder is essential for ore doubling. Craft one and place it on the ground. You’ll also need a titanium blade, which is made from three titanium blade pieces (themselves crafted from titanium nuggets and ingots).

Once assembled:

Place down your manual grinder

Right-click your titanium blade into it

Right-click iron ingots repeatedly to grind them into ground iron

Repeat the process with gold ingots to create ground gold

You can also use raw ore to double your ore output

Creating Iron Silt and Pure Iron Ingots

Now that you have ground iron, the next step is crucial for progression:

Right-click your ground iron into the fluid bath with silt

The mixture will turn gray, confirming it’s correct

Stir with your wooden stirring stick to create iron silt

Smelt the iron silt in a furnace to get pure iron ingots

Repeat this process with ground gold to obtain pure gold ingots

Upgrading Your Stirring Stick and Creating Gold-Dipped Blades

With pure iron ingots available, you can now craft a pure iron stirring stick. This allows you to work with lava in the fluid bath. To drain the fluid bath and add lava, shift right-click.

Next, create pure gold-dipped blade pieces:

Place titanium blade pieces into the lava-filled fluid bath

Add a pure gold ingot

Stir with your new pure iron stirring stick

After many clicks, you’ll receive a pure gold-dipped blade piece

Craft three of these together to make a pure gold-dipped blade

Remove your old titanium blade by shift right-clicking it, then insert the pure gold-dipped blade in its place.

Grinding Coal and Creating Steel

With your gold-dipped blade installed in the manual grinder, you can now grind coal:

Right-click coal into the manual grinder to create ground coal

This also works with charcoal

For the final step of the Primitive Age, you’ll create steel:

Add a bucket of lava to your fluid bath

Right-click ground coal into the bath

Right-click ground iron into the bath

Stir with your pure iron stirring stick

The result is steel ingots

Completion and Progression

Once you have steel ingots, you’ve completed the Primitive Age! You can now craft:

A steel stirring stick

A steel blade (made from steel blade pieces)

With steel in hand, you’re ready to advance to the Crank Age—the next phase of assembly line progression.

Summary

The Primitive Age establishes the foundation for all assembly line machines. Key takeaways:

Mine titanium ore for the fundamental components

Master the fluid bath with water and silt creation

Use the manual grinder to double ore and create ground materials

Progress from pure iron to pure gold components

Culminate with steel production to unlock the next age
