Once you’ve got item and fluid transfer sorted in Embers Rekindled, the next big step is obtaining Ember, Ember Crystals, and related resources. The machine you need for this is the Ember Bore. In this guide, we’ll walk you through exactly how to place it, power it, and extract those all-important Ember resources from it — step by step.

What Is the Ember Bore?

The Ember Bore is the primary machine in Embers Rekindled used to generate Ember Crystals, Ember Shards, and Ember Grit. It’s a large multiblock-style machine that drills down toward bedrock to extract these resources. Fortunately, it’s relatively straightforward to build and operate once you know the placement rules.

Placing the Ember Bore Correctly

Before placing your Ember Bore, you need to be aware of one critical requirement: the machine needs a 3×3 free area and must have at least three blocks of its drill touching bedrock beneath it. If the bore isn’t working after placement, the most likely cause is that it isn’t making sufficient contact with bedrock. Make sure you’re placing it low enough that the bore blades reach down to bedrock level.

Once you’ve confirmed the correct position, go ahead and place the Ember Bore down. You should be able to see the bore blades extending downward beneath the machine — this is a good visual indicator that it’s positioned properly.

Setting Up Input and Output

Adding the Mechanical Core

To handle both input and output on the Ember Bore, place a Mechanical Core on top of the machine. The Mechanical Core allows you to manage different sides for input and output separately, making it a key component of this setup.

Powering the Ember Bore with Coal

To power the Ember Bore, attach a Hopper to the side of the Mechanical Core and feed Coal into it. The coal will flow from the hopper into the Mechanical Core and then directly into the Ember Bore, which will cause the machine to begin operating.

Extracting Output from the Bore

To pull the resources out of the Ember Bore, you’ll need to set up an extraction system using the Mechanical Core. Place an Item Extractor on the top of the Mechanical Core, connect it to an Item Pipe, and attach a Lever to the Item Extractor to activate it. Finally, connect a Chest at the end of the pipe to collect the output. Flip the lever to turn the Item Extractor on, and it will begin pulling resources out of the bore automatically.

Understanding the Ember Bore Outputs

The Ember Bore produces three different types of output, each with its own use:

Ember Grit – Can be used as a fuel source.

Ember Shards – Used as an ingredient in various crafting recipes. Note that 6 Ember Shards combine to make 1 Ember Crystal.

Ember Crystals – A core crafting ingredient used throughout Embers Rekindled recipes.

Keep in mind that the Ember Bore is a slow machine. Don’t be alarmed if it takes several minutes before you start seeing a meaningful quantity of resources in your chest. Patience is key — let it run while you get on with other tasks.
