Occultism Rituals Guide
Occultism Mod Rituals Guide: How to Summon Your First Demon in Minecraft
Ready to start summoning demons to do your bidding? In this guide, we’ll walk you through your very first Occultism ritual — summoning a Folio Crusher demon. We’ll cover everything you need: the chalk, the pentacle, the sacrificial bowls, and the binding book. By the end, you’ll also understand how to progress toward more powerful demons like the Genie and Djinn Crushers. Let’s get started.
Understanding the Basics: What Actually Matters in a Ritual
Before placing a single block, it’s important to understand what does and doesn’t matter when setting up a ritual. The name of the demon you summon is randomly generated — it means nothing. The glyphs drawn by the chalk are purely decorative. The exact placement of sacrificial bowls is flexible, as long as you have the correct number within range.
The one thing that does matter is the colour of the chalk. Always pay attention to which chalk colour a ritual requires. Everything else is cosmetic.
Your First Ritual: Summoning a Folio Crusher
The Folio Crusher is a tier-one demon — “Folio” simply means tier one in Occultism’s demon hierarchy. The Folio Crusher’s job is to crush ores into two corresponding dusts, effectively doubling your ore output. It’s one of the most useful early-game demons you can summon.
Step 1: Place the Golden Sacrificial Bowl
Start by crafting a Golden Sacrificial Bowl. This is made by combining a regular Sacrificial Bowl (crafted from Otherstone) with some golden components. Place the Golden Sacrificial Bowl at the centre of your ritual space — this is the heart of every ritual you perform.

Step 2: Look Up the Ritual in the Dictionary of Spirits
Open your Dictionary of Spirits and navigate to the Pentacles section at the bottom. Find and click on Avior’s Circle. This is the pentacle used for summoning Folio-tier demons, including the Folio Crusher, Folio Lumberjack, Folio Transporter, and Folio Janitor.
Click the eye icon to activate the multi-block preview. This will show you exactly where every component needs to be placed. If you can’t read certain entries, use the option on the right-hand side to mark all unlocked entries as read — this will unlock the full text for everything you’ve already progressed through.

Step 3: Place the Candles
The ritual requires four candles. You can use standard Minecraft candles or craft Occultism candles. To craft Occultism candles, you’ll need Tallow and String. Tallow is obtained by killing pigs, cows, sheep, horses, or llamas with an Occultism Butcher’s Knife.
Place one candle in each of the four designated positions shown in the multi-block preview.

Step 4: Craft and Place White Chalk
The ritual requires White Chalk. Here’s how to make it:
Craft Otherstone and smelt it in a furnace to get Burnt Otherstone.
Throw Otherworld Wood into the Spirit Fire to get Otherworld Ashes.
Combine Burnt Otherstone and Otherworld Ashes to make Impure White Chalk.
Throw the Impure White Chalk into the Spirit Fire to upgrade it into White Chalk (durability: 128, and you can apply Unbreaking to it).
Note: Impure White Chalk is the base ingredient for all chalk colours in Occultism — red, purple, yellow, and white. The coloured variants come later in progression.
Once you have White Chalk, draw the glyphs in all the positions shown by the preview. Remember — the glyph style doesn’t matter, only the colour. You can cycle through different glyph patterns with your chalk, but they are all functionally identical. If you make a mistake, craft a Chalk Brush from basic materials and right-click on the chalk mark to erase it.

Step 5: Place the Sacrificial Bowls with Ore Catalysts
You need four Sacrificial Bowls placed anywhere within a one-block radius of the ritual circle. Each bowl needs to hold a specific ore catalyst for the Folio Crusher ritual:
Iron Ore
Gold Ore
Copper Ore
Silver Ore
Place one ore in each of the four sacrificial bowls.

Step 6: Craft and Place the Book of Binding — Folio
The final item to place is the Book of Binding — Folio. Here’s how to craft it:
Throw a Book, a Feather, and an Ink Sac individually into the Spirit Fire to get a Taboo Book, a Woken Feather, and Purified Ink.
Combine those three items to make a Book of Binding — Empty.
Surround the Book of Binding — Empty with White Dye to create the Book of Binding — Folio. (White = Folio/Tier 1. Different dye colours create books for other demon tiers — green for Djinn/tier 2, purple for Afrit, etc.)
Combine the Book of Binding — Folio with your Dictionary of Spirits to get the final Folio Demon Summoning Book.
Place this book in the centre Golden Sacrificial Bowl to begin the ritual.

Step 7: Watch the Ritual Complete
Once the book is placed, you’ll see purple particles appear — this means the ritual is working and absorbing the catalysts from the sacrificial bowls. After all four ores have been consumed, the Folio Crusher demon will be summoned into the world.

Using Your Folio Crusher
The Folio Crusher will hang around and crush ores for you. Throw an ore on the ground near it and it will pick it up. You can also Shift + Right-click the demon to open its inventory and insert ores directly. It will output two dust for every one ore — effectively doubling your ore yield.
Important: Folio-tier demons have an Essence Decay timer. You can check this by Shift + Right-clicking the demon. Once the essence fully decays, the demon returns to the spirit world. All higher-tier demons (Djinn and above) do not decay and will stay permanently.

Using the Folio Crusher to Unlock Better Chalks
Your Folio Crusher can crush more than just ores — and this is key to progressing further. Here’s what you can now craft:
Impure Purple Chalk
Requires Crushed End Stone and Obsidian Dust combined with Impure White Chalk. Have your Folio Crusher crush End Stone and Obsidian blocks to get the required dust.
Impure Golden (Yellow) Chalk
Requires Gold Dust and Glowstone Dust. Have your Crusher process gold ore to get Gold Dust. Glowstone Dust can be collected manually from the Nether.
Upgrading to Perfect Chalk
Throw your Impure Golden Chalk and Impure Purple Chalk into the Spirit Fire to upgrade them to their perfect versions. Remember — perfect or impure, the colour is what counts in rituals. Red chalk (requiring Aphrite Essence) comes later in progression.

Progressing to Higher-Tier Crusher Demons
Once you have access to gold and purple chalk, you can work toward summoning more powerful crushers. Here’s the progression:
Djinn Crusher (Tier 2)
Uses the Of-Fix’s Calling pentacle, which requires White Chalk, Gold Chalk, and Purple Chalk, plus Spirit-Attuned Crystals (made by throwing Diamonds into the Spirit Fire). Requires a Book of Binding — Djinn (crafted with Green Dye). The Djinn Crusher crushes one ore into three dusts and does not decay.

Afrit Crusher (Tier 3)
Uses the Abras Conger Pentacle, requires more complex ingredients, and crushes one ore into four dusts. Requires a Book of Binding — Afrit.
Marid Crusher (Tier 4)
The most powerful crusher, multiplying your ore output by six times. Requires the most complex summoning materials, including a Marid-tier binding book and advanced pentacle components.

Summary
You’ve now completed your first Occultism ritual and summoned a Folio Crusher demon. To recap: place a Golden Sacrificial Bowl at the centre, draw Avior’s Circle with White Chalk, place four candles, load four Sacrificial Bowls with the required ores, and activate the ritual with a Book of Binding — Folio. Your crusher will double your ores and help you unlock the coloured chalks needed for higher-tier rituals. From here, you’re on the path to summoning Djinn, Afrit, and eventually Marid demons for increasingly powerful ore multiplication. Good luck, and welcome to Occultism.
