How to get Souls & Corrupt Souls in Forbidden & Arcanus

How to Get Souls & Corrupt Souls in Forbidden & Arcanus (Minecraft 1.21.1)

If you’re diving into the Forbidden & Arcanus mod in Minecraft 1.21.1, two of the most essential resources you’ll need are Souls and Corrupt Souls. This guide walks you through exactly how to obtain both — step by step, beginner-friendly. These steps should also work across all other supported versions of the mod.

Step 1: Get the Soul Looting Enchantment

Before you can do anything else in Forbidden & Arcanus, you’ll need a weapon enchanted with Soul Looting. This enchantment is what makes Corrupt Souls drop from mobs, so it’s effectively your entry point into the mod’s progression system.

The most reliable way to get Soul Looting is through normal enchanting. You can see it applied here on a Netherite Sword — ideally you want it as high a level as possible (Soul Looting VII is shown in this example). A secondary method is trading with Wandering Traders, though the chance they stock it is quite low, so don’t rely on this method.

Step 2: Farm Corrupt Souls by Killing Mobs

Once you have Soul Looting on your weapon, head out into the world and start killing mobs. Zombies are a straightforward choice for farming. With Soul Looting active, there is a chance that a Corrupt Lost Soul will spawn out of a killed mob. Be warned — even at Soul Looting VII, the drop chance is not guaranteed, so be patient and keep killing.

When a Corrupt Lost Soul does spawn, it will attempt to flee from you and can even pass through blocks, so act quickly. Chase it down and kill it. Upon death, it will drop a Corrupt Soul item — this is the first of the two soul types you need.

Step 3: Craft a Soul Extractor to Obtain Regular Souls

To get normal Souls, you’ll need to craft a Soul Extractor. The crafting chain involves a few steps, so follow these carefully:

3a: Create an Edelwood Sapling

Take your Corrupt Soul and right-click on an Oak Sapling. This will transform it into a Growing Edelwood Sapling. You can then wait for it to grow naturally, or speed things up by using Bone Meal to instantly grow it into a full Edelwood Tree.

3b: Gather Edelwood Logs and Make Planks

Chop down the Edelwood Tree with your axe to collect Edelwood Logs. Convert these logs into Edelwood Planks using a crafting table, just as you would with any standard wood type.

3c: Craft an Uptrend Jar

Using your Edelwood Planks, craft an Uptrend Jar. This is a required intermediate component for building the Soul Extractor.

3d: Craft the Soul Extractor

To craft the Soul Extractor, you will need the following materials:

Uptrend Jar (crafted from Edelwood Planks)

Nether Bricks

Block of Quartz

Nether Quartz

Step 4: Extract Souls from Soul Sand in the Nether

With your Soul Extractor in hand, head to the Nether. Find some Soul Sand, then right-click and hold down on it with the Soul Extractor equipped. The tool will extract Souls directly from the Soul Sand — giving you the second soul type you need for Forbidden & Arcanus.

Summary

To recap: get Soul Looting on your weapon, kill mobs to spawn and collect Corrupt Lost Souls, use a Corrupt Soul to grow an Edelwood Tree, craft a Soul Extractor using Edelwood Planks, Nether Bricks, and Quartz, then head to the Nether and extract Souls from Soul Sand. With both soul types in your inventory, you’re well on your way to progressing through the Forbidden & Arcanus mod in Minecraft 1.21.1.
