Animania Pigs Full Tutorial
Animania is a comprehensive Minecraft mod that adds a variety of animals to the game, primarily focusing on farm animals with additional add-ons available for cats and dogs. This guide focuses specifically on pigs—one of the most versatile animals in the mod. Learning how to care for and utilize Animania pigs will set you up for success with other farm animals in the mod.
Understanding Animal Happiness in Animania
The core mechanic of Animania is animal happiness. If your animals aren’t happy, they won’t produce goods for you and they won’t breed. This is the foundational concept you need to understand before working with any Animania creature.
All Animania animals come in male and female variants, and different species have different happiness requirements. For pigs specifically, there are several key needs you’ll need to meet.
Pig Breeds in Animania
Animania features six distinct breeds of pigs, each with its own appearance and spawn location:
Durok Pig — Found in jungle biomes
Hampshire Pig — The spotted variant found in mountain regions
Large Black Pig — Located in swamps and dense forests
Large White Pig — Found in forest biomes
Old Spot Pig — The spotted breed found in forests
Yorkshire Pig — Replaces vanilla pigs and spawns in plains

Creating Mud for Your Pigs
One of the most important requirements for pig happiness is mud. You’ll notice pigs love to roll in mud—this is not just for aesthetics but a genuine need for their wellbeing. Pigs will not be happy without mud to roll in.
Creating mud is simple: combine dirt with water. You can craft this basic combination to establish mud areas for your pigs.

Water and Troughs
Beyond mud, pigs also appreciate a small pond where they can dive in and clean themselves off. However, a more practical solution is to use a trough, which you can fill with water.
Troughs are highly flexible—you can fill them manually with a bucket, or you can automate the process using hoppers or pipes from other mods. This makes large-scale pig farming much more convenient.

Feeding Pigs: Favorite Foods and Alternatives
Pigs have a favorite food: slop. You can right-click a bucket of slop (or any food item) into a trough to feed your pigs. However, they’re not picky eaters—pigs will also consume carrots, beets, potatoes, and can graze on tall grass.
While pigs don’t require their favorite food to survive, feeding them slop will make them happier, and happier animals produce significantly better goods for you.
Crafting Slop
Slop is crafted by combining any type of milk with vegetables. This simple recipe allows you to mass-produce pig feed for optimal happiness levels.

Pig Breeding and Babies
Breeding pigs in Animania is straightforward: as long as you have both a happy male and female pig, they will fall in love and produce babies. Since pigs are mammals, the female will become pregnant and incubate the baby. This pregnancy typically lasts about one Minecraft day before the baby is born.

Riding Pigs
All adult Animania pigs can be ridden, making them a useful form of transportation. To ride a pig, ensure it has been fed and watered, then right-click it while holding a carrot and stick. You can right-click again to speed up the pig’s movement, and press shift to dismount.

Truffle Hunting with Leashed Pigs
One of the most unique features of pigs in Animania is their ability to find truffles. If you place a lead on a pig and walk through a forest while the pig is hungry, it will uncover truffles from the ground. The key is to keep the pig hungry—don’t feed them before truffle hunting, as sated pigs won’t search for them. Truffle hunting can take some time, but the rewards are worthwhile.

Using Truffles
Truffles are versatile ingredients. They can be eaten raw or used to craft:
Truffle Soup
Truffle Omelette
Aura Omelette (made with roast prime bacon)
Chocolate Truffles (provides a speed boost)

Pig Products and Meat Processing
Happy pigs produce raw prime pork, which is significantly superior to vanilla pork. When cooked into roast prime pork and consumed, it grants Absorption I for 2.5 minutes—a valuable buff that normal pork doesn’t provide.
You can process raw prime pork into raw prime bacon using a carving knife. This same carving knife is used throughout Animania for processing various meats and cheeses from other animals.

Pig Bedding: Making Straw
For pigs to sleep comfortably, you’ll need straw. This is easily crafted by placing wheat in a crafting grid. Providing proper bedding contributes to overall animal happiness.

Healing Injured Pigs with Salt Licks
If your pigs have been injured by predators or other hazards, you can craft salt licks to heal them. Salt licks are made by combining salt with a bucket of water.
Salt itself is created by placing water into a cheese mold and allowing it to evaporate over time. Each salt lick has 200 uses and will heal a pig by one heart per lick before disintegrating. Simply place the salt lick near an injured pig and it will consume it.

Unleashing Your Pigs
When you’re finished truffle hunting or moving your pigs around, simply right-click them again while holding a lead to unleash them.

Summary
Animania pigs are rewarding animals to raise, offering premium meat products, useful items like truffles, and even transportation benefits. The key to success is maintaining their happiness by providing mud, clean water via troughs, quality food like slop, and proper bedding. With these basics in place, your pigs will breed, produce excellent goods, and contribute meaningfully to your Minecraft farm.
