The Ultimate Guide to Apotheosis

The Ultimate Guide to Apotheosis for Minecraft

Apotheosis is one of the most feature-rich mods available for Minecraft, overhauling spawners, enchanting, gear progression, potions, and much more. If you are playing on version 1.21 or above, be aware that Apotheosis has been split into separate modules — Apothic Spawners, Apothic Attributes, and Apothic Enchanting. If you are on version 1.20.1 or below, everything is bundled together in the single Apotheosis mod. This guide covers all of it.

The Garden Module — Vanilla Minecraft Changes

Apotheosis makes several quality-of-life improvements to vanilla Minecraft through what is called the Garden Module. These changes affect three plants you already know:

Bamboo will now grow up to 32 blocks tall.

Sugarcane now has a maximum growth height of 255 blocks.

Cactus can now grow to a height of 5 blocks.

There are also smaller changes in villages. The fletching table now lets you craft arrows, and several new arrow types are available through villager trades.

Potion Changes

New Potions

Apotheosis introduces a brand new potion called the Potion of Ancient Knowledge. While active, any experience generated from mobs you kill is multiplied. At level 1 it quadruples experience drops, and at level 2 it multiplies experience by 8.

New Status Effects

Two new negative status effects are added by the mod:

Bleeding — Applied by broadhead arrows. Causes damage every 2 seconds, with damage increasing per level of Bleeding.

Sundering — While active, all damage received is increased by 20% per level.

Previously Unobtainable Vanilla Potions

Apotheosis adds crafting recipes for several vanilla potions that previously had no way to be brewed. These are Haste, Resistance, Mining Fatigue, and Absorption. To find these recipes in-game, craft the Chronicle of Shadows (a book combined with a gold ingot), navigate to the Potion Module, then Potion Recipes, and look up the potion you want.

Potion Charms

Apotheosis also adds Potion Charms — consumable items that apply potion effects directly. They are relatively easy to craft, requiring 6 Blaze Powder and 3 of the matching potion. If you have the Curios add-on installed, you can equip them in a Curios charm slot via the dedicated inventory button. Alternatively, they work directly from your inventory — simply right-click a charm to activate it and gain its effect. There is also a way to make Potion Charms unbreakable, which is covered in the enchanting section below.

Apothic Spawners — The Spawners Module

One of the most powerful modules Apotheosis offers is its overhaul of mob spawners. On version 1.21 and above this is called Apothic Spawners. On version 1.20.1 and below it is part of Apotheosis itself. In JEI, search @apothec spawn (1.21+) or apotheosis (1.20 and below) to view all relevant items.

The Capturing Enchantment

The module adds a new enchantment called Capturing, which can be applied to a sword. When you kill a mob with this enchantment, there is a small chance it will drop its own spawn egg.

Customising Spawners with Spawn Eggs

If you use a spawn egg on an Apotheosis-modified spawner, it will change that spawner to produce the mob matching the egg. For example, using a Cave Spider spawn egg on a Monster Spawner will turn it into a Cave Spider spawner.

Spawners can also be picked up using a Silk Touch tool and relocated anywhere you like.

Spawner Upgrades

The really exciting part is what you can do to spawners. In JEI, look up the Apothic Spawner block and press U to see the 32 different upgrades available. Here is a summary of the key ones:

Turtle Egg — Spawner will always attempt to spawn a baby entity.

Piston — Increases spawn range.

Fermented Spider Eye — Increases spawn count.

Wool — Makes the spawner silent.

Redstone — Adds redstone control to the spawner.

Prismarine Crystals — Adjusts the player proximity range required for activation.

Chorus Fruit — Spawned entities will have no AI.

Additional upgrades let you tweak spawn delay, entity count, initial health, light ignoring, condition ignoring, and more.

Pro tip: If you hold the same upgrade item in your main hand and a Nether Star in your off hand, you apply the opposite of the upgrade. For example, using a Turtle Egg with a Nether Star in your off hand on a zombie spawner will prevent baby zombies from ever spawning — extremely useful.

Apothic Enchanting — The Enchanting Module

Apotheosis completely overhauls the enchanting system. On version 1.21+ this is the Apothic Enchanting mod. On 1.20.1 and below it is part of Apotheosis. The biggest change: enchanting can now reach up to level 100 instead of the vanilla cap of 30.

The Three Enchanting Stats: Eterna, Quanta, and Arcana

When you open your enchanting table you will now see three new stats displayed:

Eterna — Determines the maximum enchantment level you can reach. With a standard vanilla bookshelf setup the maximum Eterna is 30 out of 100.

Quanta — Controls how random your enchants are. Higher Quanta reduces the chance of negative randomness, making your results more consistently good.

Arcana — Makes rare enchantments more common and increases the number of enchantments applied in a single use of the table.

Enchanting Clues

You will also notice an Enchanting Clues counter at the top of your screen. Each clue reveals one of the enchantments hidden behind the rune symbols before you commit to enchanting. With a vanilla setup you typically see 1 clue. Certain bookshelves can increase this number significantly — up to 6+ clues with an optimised setup.

The Enchantment Library and Library of Alexandria

The Enchantment Library is a block that stores enchanted books. Insert an enchanted book to deposit it. Left-click a stored enchantment to extract one level. Right-click to extract the maximum available level. This makes managing large numbers of enchantments far easier.

The Library of Alexandria works the same way but holds significantly more enchantments, with storage limits so high you rarely need to worry about them.

To upgrade your Enchantment Library into a Library of Alexandria, you need to reach very specific stat values at the enchanting table and then use the Infusion option. The exact bookshelf setup required is:

2× Infused Sea Shelves

2× Draconic End Shelves

3× Melon Shelves

6× Echoing Skulk Shelves

8× standard Bookshelves

Apotheosis Bookshelves — Full Progression Guide

Apotheosis adds a wide variety of custom bookshelves, each contributing different amounts of Eterna, Quanta, and Arcana. Below is the full progression from early-game to late-game shelves.

Specialty Shelves

B Shelf — Quanta +100%, Eterna −30. Used for specific interactions (e.g. Productive Bees mod).

Stone Shelf — A basic early shelf.

Melon Shelf — Eterna −2, Quanta −10%. Used in the Library of Alexandria upgrade.

Hell Shelves (Early-Mid Game)

Hell Shelves primarily increase your Eterna and Quanta. The basic Hell Shelf is crafted with a Potion of Regeneration and Nether Bricks.

Hell Shelf — Adds Eterna and Quanta.

Infused Hell Shelf — Upgraded via the enchanting table. Requires at least 30% Quanta and at least 45 Eterna — achievable by placing approximately 10 standard Hell Shelves in your setup first.

Hell Shelf of Masterful Sight — Adds 2 Enchanting Clues. Expensive to craft but extremely valuable for seeing all enchants before committing.

Blazing Hell Shelf — Adds a large amount of Eterna and Quanta but removes 1 Enchanting Clue.

Glowing Hell Shelf — Adds Eterna, Arcana, and Quanta. The best Hell Shelf tier. Crafted by combining an Infused Hell Shelf with Glowstone (may vary by modpack).

Sea Shelves (Mid Game)

Sea Shelves primarily increase Eterna and Arcana.

Sea Shelf — Basic sea variant.

Infused Sea Shelf — Upgraded version of the Sea Shelf.

Sea Shelf of Aquatic Filtration — Allows you to right-click it to exclude specific enchantments and curses from ever appearing at your enchanting table. Incredibly powerful for targeted enchanting.

Heart-Forged Sea Shelf — A stronger Sea Shelf upgrade.

Crystalline Sea Shelf — The best Sea Shelf tier. You need approximately 15 of these to progress further.

Deep and Skulk Shelves (Late Game)

Deep Shelf — Crafted first as a Dormant Deep Shelf using Deepslate Tiles and books, then upgraded to the active Deep Shelf via Infusion (using a few Blazing Hell Shelves and Crystalline Sea Shelves in your setup).

Echoing Deep Shelf — Adds Eterna +5 and Arcana +15.

Echoing Skulk Shelf — Adds Eterna, Quanta, and Arcana.

Soul-Touched Skulk Shelf — One of the most powerful shelves in the mod. Adds Eterna up to 80, Quanta +15, Arcana +10%, and 1 Enchanting Clue per shelf. May require killing Wardens to obtain materials.

End Shelves (End Game)

End Shelf — Crafted with Infused Dragon’s Breath. Adds Eterna, Quanta, and Arcana.

Pearlescent End Shelf — A straightforward upgrade if you have access to the End.

Draconic End Shelf — Does not require a Dragon Head. Adds Eterna +20 alone. Extremely powerful.

Deep Shelf of Arcane Treasures — Adds Eterna +10, Arcana, but Quanta −15. Most importantly, it allows Treasure Enchantments (normally unobtainable via the enchanting table) to appear. Use with caution — most curses are treasure enchantments, so pair this with the Sea Shelf of Aquatic Filtration to filter them out.

Building the Perfect Enchanting Setup

If you want the absolute best enchanting setup possible, here is the exact configuration to build around your enchanting table:

5× Echoing Skulk Shelves

1× B Shelf

2× Heart-Forged Sea Shelves

2× Draconic End Shelves

1× Deep Shelf of Arcane Treasures

Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability

The Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability deserves a special mention. It provides Quantic Stability, which completely removes the possibility of negative enchantments appearing. While Quanta normally only reduces negative randomness, this shelf eliminates it entirely. This setup also provides 6 Enchanting Clues, meaning you can see every enchantment before committing.

Additional Enchanting Stat Boosters

If you cannot yet obtain all the bookshelves you need, search enchanting stats in JEI to find supplementary items that contribute stat boosts:

Purple Candles — Provide some Arcana.

Skulls — Provide additional Quanta.

Occultism Candles (if the Occultism mod is installed) — Good Arcana source.

Tomes

Apotheosis adds several Tomes — items that can be enchanted like books but only accept specific types of enchantments. The most useful is the Tome of Scrapping, which lets you retrieve enchantments from a piece of gear. Combine the Tome of Scrapping with any item in an anvil to destroy that item and transfer some of its enchantments to an enchanted book at random.

Prismatic Cobwebs

Prismatic Cobwebs can be combined with any item in an anvil to remove all curses from it — a very handy tool when dealing with powerful but cursed gear.

The Adventure Module — Unique Gear, Gems, and Reforging

The Adventure Module adds a full gear progression system to Minecraft. While exploring dungeons or killing bosses, you will find unique items dropped by Apotheosis with bonus stats and gem sockets. These items come in six rarities:

Common — Barely above normal gear. May have 1+ bonus stats.

Uncommon — 2–3 bonus stats, possibly a gem socket.

Rare — Stronger stats and sockets.

Epic — Even more powerful.

Mythic — The pinnacle of craftable gear.

Ancient — Not yet fully implemented in the game.

The Salvaging Table

The Salvaging Table lets you break down unique gear into crafting materials based on its rarity. Each rarity produces a different material:

Common → Mysterious Scrap Metal

Uncommon → Time-Worn Fabric

Rare → Luminous Crystal Shards

Epic → Arcane Sands

Mythic → God-Forged Pearls

To craft the Salvaging Table you will need Gem Dust. To get your very first Gem Dust, drop any Apotheosis gem on the ground and let an anvil fall on it. This crushes it into Gem Dust which you can then use to craft the Salvaging Table.

The Simple Reforging Table and Reforging Table

Once you have salvage materials, use the Simple Reforging Table (crafted with Gem Dust and an Enchanting Table) to reforge items up to Rare quality.

Place your salvage material in the top-left slot, Sigils of Rebirth (crafted from Gem-Fused Slate and Deepslate) in the bottom-right slot, and the item you want to reforge in the centre. You will be presented with three stat options to choose from, each showing you the bonus stats, socket count, and reforge cost before you commit.

To reforge items up to Mythic quality, upgrade to the full Reforging Table, crafted with Arcane Sands (from Epic gear) and Nether materials. This works identically but allows you to reach Mythic tier stats.

Gem Sockets

Many reforged items will have gem sockets. To insert a gem, open a standard Smithing Table, place your item in the centre slot, and add the gem you want to socket. Note that different gems are compatible with different item types:

Light Weapons — Swords and Tridents

Heavy Weapons — Axes

Core Armor — Chest Plates and Leggings

Ranged Weapons — Bows (Tridents are not classed as ranged)

Tools — Pickaxes, etc.

Always check which item types a gem is compatible with before socketing.

To remove gems from an item, use a Sigil of Withdrawal in the Smithing Table. This removes all socketed gems and returns the item with empty sockets. Note that the gems themselves are destroyed in the process.

Upgrading Gems with the Gem Cutting Table

Gems come in six levels of quality: Cracked → Chipped → Flawed → Standard → Flawless → Perfect. Each tier provides stronger bonuses. To upgrade gems, use the Gem Cutting Table:

Place 2 gems of the same type and current level in the table.

Add the salvage material matching the next rarity tier (e.g. use Time-Worn Fabric to go from Cracked to Chipped).

Add Gem Dust.

Press Upgrade Gem.

The full upgrade chain of materials needed is:

Cracked → Chipped: Time-Worn Fabric

Chipped → Flawed: Luminous Crystal Shards

Flawed → Standard: Arcane Sands

Standard → Flawless: God-Forged Pearls

Flawless → Perfect: 9× Arcane Sands or 3× God-Forged Pearls

Dimension-Specific Gems

Certain gems can only be obtained in specific dimensions by killing mobs and bosses there. Here is a quick reference:

Overworld — Gem of the Royal Family, Gem of the Earth

Nether — Incandescent Inferno Gem, Ravenous Blood Lord Gem

The End — Mage Slayer Gem, Ender Surge Gem

Twilight Forest (if installed) — Frozen Queen Gem, Gem of the Twilight Forest

The specific drop rates and bosses that drop gems may vary depending on the modpack you are playing, so check with your modpack’s configuration if you are struggling to find them.

Summary

Apotheosis — or its split Apothic modules on 1.21+ — is an enormous mod that touches almost every part of Minecraft gameplay. From growing taller bamboo and brewing previously unobtainable potions, to fully customising mob spawners, building a level-100 enchanting setup, and hunting dimension-specific gems for perfect mythic gear, there is a huge amount to explore. Work through each module at your own pace, and you will quickly find that Apotheosis transforms Minecraft into a far deeper and more rewarding experience.
