Embers Rekindled: How to Build and Use the Pressure Refinery

Once you’ve mastered the basics of Embers Rekindled, it’s time to level up your power generation. The Pressure Refinery is a significant upgrade over standard activators, producing ember at a much faster rate. In this guide, we’ll walk you through building the Pressure Refinery step by step — from choosing the right base material to routing ember with beam splitters and advanced components.

Setting Up the Pressure Refinery

Choosing Your Base Material

Before placing your Pressure Refinery, it’s important to understand Production Multipliers. You can check these by pressing U on the Refinery and selecting Production Multiplier. Different materials placed beneath the refinery give different output bonuses:

Copper — Free to use, but degrades over time into Weathered Copper and then Oxidized Copper, which only gives a 1.5x multiplier.

Dawnstone — Provides a 1.5x multiplier.

Block of Silver or Block of Gold — Recommended options for better performance. Gold provides a 3x multiplier.

For this setup, we’ll use a Block of Gold. Place the block of gold first, then place the Pressure Refinery directly on top of it — making sure to build one block higher than ground level to leave room for a heat source.

Adding a Heat Source

The Pressure Refinery requires a heat source placed at the same height as your base material block (e.g., the gold block). You have two main options:

Lava — Place it at the same height as the gold block.

Netherrack with Fire — Place the Netherrack one block below the gold block, since the fire sits on top of the Netherrack and aligns at gold height. This is a cleaner and more decorative option.

Either method works — the key rule is that your heat source must align at the height of the base material block.

Pumping Water Into the Refinery

Using the Mechanical Pump

The Pressure Refinery requires a water input fed into the bottom of the refinery. To do this, you’ll use a Mechanical Pump. Place the Mechanical Pump above your water source and power it with ember — ember goes in at the top of the pump.

To move the water from the pump to the refinery, attach a Fluid Extractor with pipes and a lever to control the flow. When the pump is powered — connected via an emitter-to-receptor link — it will begin pumping water through the pipes and into the holes at the bottom of the Pressure Refinery.

Once water is flowing and your heat source is in place, the Pressure Refinery will begin generating ember at a significantly faster rate than standard activators.

Distributing Ember with a Beam Splitter

As your setup grows, you’ll need to send ember to multiple machines simultaneously. This is where the Beam Splitter comes in. The beam splitter has two types of connection points:

Input (In) — The smaller, inward-facing connector.

Output (Out) — The outward-pointing connector.

Connect your emitter into the In port of the beam splitter, then link the Out ports to your receptors. The beam splitter will divide the ember signal — for example, half to one receptor and half to another.

A handy feature of the beam splitter is that it remembers its links. If you break a connected receptor and place it back, the link is automatically restored without needing to relink manually.

Advanced Ember Components: Funnels, Ejectors, and Siphons

Once your ember output grows, you’ll want to upgrade to more powerful transfer components:

Ember Funnel — An upgraded version of the receptor. Used as a high-capacity input.

Ejector — An upgraded version of the emitter. Used as a high-capacity output.

Siphon — Automatically siphons ember from a storage block (such as a Copper Cell) without needing a direct emitter link. You can then output that ember using ejectors placed around it.

These components are simply more powerful alternatives to the standard emitter/receptor system and become essential as your Embers Rekindled setup scales up.
