The Ultimate Guide to Rune Craft
The Ultimate Rune Craft Mod Guide: Runes, Rituals, Wands & More
Rune Craft is a Minecraft mod built around a full runic alphabet and a rich system of magic rituals, wands, soul orbs, and enchanted gear. Whether you want to summon lightning, trap souls in spawn eggs, or levitate above your enemies, this guide covers everything you need to get started and master the mod from the ground up.
Getting Started: Crafting Rune Dust and Runes
The foundation of Rune Craft is the rune itself. To craft any rune, you first need two core ingredients: rune dust and ash.
Rune Dust is crafted using nether wart ash and glowstone dust.
Ash can be found as blocks in the Nether inside basalt deltas, or obtained by killing blazes. Ash blocks look very similar to basalt.

Once you have rune dust, you can craft the full runic alphabet. The mod includes a complete A–Z set of runes — for example, Am (A), Bether (B), Cess (C), all the way through to Zia (Z). Each rune is crafted in a specific pattern inside a crafting table, designed to visually resemble the rune’s shape.

Runes can also be placed directly on the ground. Any entity that walks over them will be affected by the rune’s effect — and this works even through obstacles.

Crafting Rune Stones
The next key item you need is a rune stone. It is crafted using ash, polished deepslate, and a spirit crystal.
Spirit crystals are the trickiest ingredient to obtain — there are only two ways to get them:
Trade with a wandering trader.
Obtain one from an evoker (found in woodland mansions).

Once you have a rune stone, you can attach runes to it by right-clicking a rune onto the stone. Right-clicking the rune stone will then trigger that rune’s effect. Be careful which rune you attach — for example, attaching a blindness rune is obviously something you want to avoid using on yourself.

Building the Altar
The altar is the centrepiece of the entire Rune Craft mod. Almost every major action in the mod flows through it. Craft the altar using a rune stone and additional deepslate blocks.

There is also a rune scribe block in the mod, but at the time of writing this guide it is still a work in progress from the mod author. If this has changed since this guide was published, drop a comment below so it can be updated.
The Guide Book: Book of Rune Magic
Before diving into rituals, craft yourself the Book of Rune Magic. It is made simply with a book and rune dust. This guide book lists every ritual in the mod along with its exact requirements — including XP cost, time of day, and the specific page needed. Keep it on hand at all times.

Performing Rituals at the Altar
Rituals are the heart of Rune Craft. To perform one, you right-click a specific ritual page onto the altar at the right conditions (usually nighttime with a required amount of XP levels).
Creating a Magical Book and Magical Pages
Many rituals require a magical page, which in turn requires a magical book. To create a magical book:
Wait for a full moon at nighttime.
Hold a regular book and right-click it on the altar.
A lightning bolt will strike the altar and produce a magical book.
This costs a small amount of XP (as little as 1 level works).

Place your magical book in a crafting table to turn it into a magical page. You can then combine magical pages with specific runes to create the ritual pages needed for each ritual.

The Wand Ritual (Page of Wands)
To craft a Page of Wands, combine a magical page with the runes Am, Wand, Net, and Dot — essentially spelling out W-A-N-D. Right-click this page onto the altar at nighttime with at least 10 XP levels to receive a basic wand.

Right-clicking the basic wand shows its working radius as a visual effect ring. A cooldown timer will appear in your action bar after each use.

Crafting Specialised Wands
The basic wand is just the beginning. By surrounding it with specific rune combinations in a crafting table, you can upgrade it into a wide range of powerful specialised wands. Here is the full list:

Air Wand — Left-click to fly; also launches creatures into the air.
Nether Wand — Releases a large burst of fire, setting nearby creatures alight.
Holy Wand — Releases a healing effect on left-click; heals creatures but damages undead.
Changing Wand — Cycles through the block states of a selected block.
Creature Wand — Spawns random monsters.
Curse Wand — Releases a ring of negative spells; also affects the user, so use with care.
Defensive Wand — Generates a cobblestone capsule around you and grants damage resistance. Shift-right-click to destroy the capsule.
Destruction Wand — Instantly destroys the selected block with no drops. Shift-right-click spawns primed TNT.
Escape Wand — Releases a smoke cloud and grants invisibility and movement speed.
Maelstrom Wand — Releases a ring of wither spells and inflicts the wither effect on creatures.
Storm Wand — Pushes creatures far back.
Thunder Wand — Right-click changes weather to sunshine; shift-right-click changes weather to rain; left-click sends a lightning bolt at a target creature.
The Thunder Wand is especially valuable if you play other mods that require a mob to be struck by lightning — it makes that mechanic trivially easy to trigger on demand.

Ritual Daggers, Souls, and Soul Orbs
The Ritual Dagger
Craft a ritual dagger using a spirit crystal. When you kill a mob using the ritual dagger, you collect that mob’s soul as an item (for example, a zombie soul).

Soul Binding Ritual
Use the soul binding ritual at the altar (requires 10 XP levels at nighttime) with a mob soul to receive a spawn egg of that exact mob. Kill a zombie, get a zombie soul, perform the ritual — and you now have a zombie spawn egg.

Creating Orbs (Page of Orbs Ritual)
Craft a Page of Orbs by combining a magical page with the correct runes. Right-click it onto the altar with the required XP at nighttime to receive 10 orbs. Note: occasionally a vex can spawn during this ritual, so be prepared.

Orbs are extremely versatile. When combined with different runes they can transmute into valuable items including:
Mycelium
Obsidian
Spirit crystals (great for mid-to-late game self-sufficiency)
Diamonds
Magical cloth (used for rune mage gear — more on this below)

Crafting Soul Orbs
Combine an orb, a magical book, and a mob soul in a crafting table to create a soul orb. Soul orbs let you craft spawn eggs for mobs different from the one you killed — the specific spawn egg you get depends on which runes you use in the recipe. This gives you a flexible way to obtain a wide variety of spawn eggs.

All Available Rituals: Quick Reference
Here is a full summary of every ritual available in Rune Craft:
Wand Ritual (Page of Wands) — Summons a basic wand. Requires 10 XP levels, nighttime.
Spell Ritual (Page of Spells) — Summons a random effect cloud with random abilities. Requires 5 XP levels, nighttime.
Potion Ritual (Potion Page) — Summons a random strong potion. Requires 10 XP levels, nighttime.
Curse Ritual (Page of Curses) — Summons a random evil creature. Requires 5 XP levels, nighttime.
Orb Ritual (Page of Orbs) — Grants 10 orbs. Requires XP, nighttime.
Enchanting Ritual (Enchanting Page) — Summons a rare enchanted book. Requires 10 XP levels, nighttime.
Treasure Ritual (Lost Page) — Grants a rare treasure item. Lost pages are found in stronghold libraries or woodland mansions — they cannot be crafted.
Dark Ritual (Banned Page) — Believed to be found in stronghold chests, dungeon chests, or end cities. (Confirm in the mod’s Discord if uncertain.)
Soul Binding Ritual — Converts a mob soul into a spawn egg of that mob. Requires 10 XP levels, nighttime.
Repair Ritual — Right-click a damaged item onto the altar to repair it. Costs 1 XP level per use.

The repair ritual deserves a special mention: simply hold a damaged item (such as a wand) and right-click the altar. It costs 1 XP level and will repair the item’s durability. This works without needing any ritual page.

Rune Mage Gear
Rune Craft adds a full armour set called the Rune Mage Gear. It is crafted using magical cloth, which you obtain by transmuting orbs with specific runes (as mentioned in the orb section above). The set consists of a robe, chest, legs, and boots.
Wearing the full set grants:
Jump Boost II
Fire Resistance

The Bundle (Storage Item)
Rune Craft also adds a bundle — a storage item that allows you to combine multiple item types within a single inventory slot, helping you manage your inventory more efficiently. It is also crafted from magical cloth.
Note: the bundle may not appear correctly in JEI (Just Enough Items), but it does work in-game. To add items to the bundle, left-click to pick up an item and then right-click it onto the bundle. Right-click the bundle to retrieve items back out.

Portable Rune Stones
Portable rune stones are handheld rune stones you can carry and activate on the go. Crafting them requires a spirit star.
How to Get a Spirit Star
There are three ways to obtain a spirit star:
Complete the Treasure Ritual with a lost page at the altar.
Combine a nether star with rune dust and magical books.
Convert an existing portable rune stone back into a spirit star.
Be aware that the spirit star is consumed each time you craft a portable rune stone, so plan accordingly.

Rune Effects on Portable Rune Stones
Each rune in the alphabet corresponds to a specific status effect when applied to a portable rune stone. You can hover over a portable rune stone in your inventory to see exactly what effect it provides. The full list of effects available is:
Speed
Jump Boost
Regeneration
Invisibility
Levitation
Strength
Slowness
Haste
Mining Fatigue
Instant Health
Nausea
Resistance
Fire Resistance
Water Breathing
Blindness
Night Vision
Hunger
Weakness
Poison
Health Boost
Saturation
Glowing
Luck
Unluck
Absorption
In addition to the standard alphabet runes, there are four bonus runes outside the normal A–Z set: Dharma, Fire, Pot, and one more — likely representing elemental forces such as fire and air.

To use a portable rune stone, simply right-click it on the ground or on a target. For example, activating a levitation rune stone will immediately begin levitating you.
