Rituals & Tau Fruit Tutorial – Blood Magic

Blood Magic Rituals & Tau Fruit – Complete Beginner’s Guide

Once you have your Tier 3 Blood Altar up and running, a whole new layer of Blood Magic opens up: rituals. These powerful structures can automate tasks, open new dimensions, and unlock rare resources. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to get started with rituals — including how to craft the required components, how to place and activate your first ritual, and how to find and farm the essential Tau Fruit from the Hidden Realm dimension.

Understanding Rituals in Blood Magic

Rituals are one of the most interesting systems in Blood Magic. To browse all available rituals, open your guide book and click the tree branch / rituals icon. On the left-hand side you’ll find a full list of every ritual in the mod.

There are a large number of rituals, so it’s well worth taking time to read through them on your own. Rituals are divided into tiers — with a Tier 3 Blood Altar, you will currently only have access to Tier 1 rituals.

Crafting the Required Components

Before you can place any ritual, you need to craft a few key items. Here’s what you’ll need:

Ritual Stones & Master Ritual Stone

First, craft Ritual Stones — you’ll need quite a lot of these, so aim for at least a full stack to start. Using those, craft one Master Ritual Stone. You will need one Master Ritual Stone for every single ritual you want to build.

Inscription Tools

Inscription Tools are crafted inside the Blood Altar and require a Tier 3 Blood Altar to make. There are different types, each using a specific material:

Fire Inscription Tool — requires Magma Cream

Water Inscription Tool — requires Lapis

Air Inscription Tool — requires a Ghast item

Earth Inscription Tool — requires Obsidian

Note: In this version, the guide book states that Inscription Tool durability is no longer consumed — they will last forever. In some older versions, you may need to remake them periodically.

Ritual Diviner

The Ritual Diviner is your main tool for selecting and placing rituals. It is crafted using Inscription Tools. Once crafted, right-clicking with the Ritual Diviner while looking into the air will display the current direction — North, South, East, or West. If a ritual affects a specific direction, this is how you set it.

To select a ritual, Shift + Right-Click with the Ritual Diviner. This opens a selection menu showing all available Tier 1 rituals, including:

Ritual of the Full Spring

The Timberman

The Green Grove

High Jump

The Filler

The Zephyr

Magnetism

Shaded Stomach

The Hidden Realm

Placing Your First Ritual – The Hidden Realm

The first ritual we recommend building is The Hidden Realm. It’s a Tier 1 ritual and gives you access to resources you’ll need to progress further in Blood Magic.

Placing the Master Ritual Stone

Place your Master Ritual Stone on the ground. With your Ritual Diviner already set to The Hidden Realm via Shift + Right-Click, hover over the Master Ritual Stone — you’ll see an outline of all the required Ritual Stones that need to be placed around it.

Building the Ritual Structure

Right-click with the Ritual Diviner to automatically place the Ritual Stones into their correct positions. The structure will build itself around the Master Ritual Stone. Be aware that the ritual can extend both upward and downward, which may cause issues with land claims or terrain obstructions.

Manually Painting Ritual Stones

If you need to manually set the type of a Ritual Stone (for example, applying the Earth inscription to a stone), simply place a plain Ritual Stone and then right-click it with the appropriate Inscription Tool. Repeat until the correct inscription is applied.

Activating the Ritual

Crafting a Weak Activation Crystal

To activate Tier 1 rituals, you need a Weak Activation Crystal. This is crafted by placing a Lava Crystal into your Tier 3 Blood Altar. Craft the Lava Crystal first using its recipe, then insert it into the altar to receive the Weak Activation Crystal.

Activating the Ritual

With the Weak Activation Crystal in hand, right-click the Master Ritual Stone. If successful, you’ll see the message: “A rush of energy flows through you.”

If you receive an error message instead, check for the following common issues:

Not enough Life Essence — Kill mobs near your altar or use self-sacrifice to fill your Soul Network.

Blocked area — The land above or below the ritual may be obstructed, or the Ritual Stones may not be placed correctly.

Exploring the Hidden Realm

Once the ritual is active, right-click the Master Ritual Stone to be transported to the Hidden Realm dimension. Don’t worry — you will be able to return home.

Finding the Loot Chest & Iron Key

When you arrive, look for a loot chest nearby. Inside you’ll find various items — the contents can vary depending on what other mods you have installed — but most importantly, look for an Iron Key. This is a simple key that can open dungeon doors within the Hidden Realm.

Opening the Dungeon

Explore the area until you find a Dungeon Seal — a locked door. Right-click it with your Iron Key to open the door and proceed into the dungeon.

Collecting Tau Fruit

Inside the dungeon you’ll find multiple chests filled with iron and other loot. Keep exploring until you find a chest containing Tau Fruit. This is the key item you came here for. Take it and head back home.

Using & Farming Tau Fruit

Tau Fruit is a valuable ingredient used in your Alchemy Table for several important recipes, including:

Tau Oil

Standard Strengthening Catalysts

Reinforced Explosive Cells

Small Lengthening Catalysts

Planting Tau Fruit

To grow your own Tau Fruit, you’ll first need to till the ground with a hoe before planting. Place the Tau Fruit on the tilled soil to plant it. You can use Bone Meal to speed up its growth.

Harvesting Saturated Tau

Here’s where Tau Fruit gets really interesting. Once the plant is fully grown and mature, place a passive mob — such as a cow or pig — on top of it. When the Tau Fruit naturally completes its maturation cycle, it will absorb the life force of the animal and transform into Saturated Tau instead of regular Tau Fruit.

Simply leave the mob standing on the fully grown plant and wait. The plant will do the rest automatically, converting into Saturated Tau once the process is complete.

Summary

Rituals are a powerful next step after building your Tier 3 Blood Altar. By crafting Ritual Stones, a Master Ritual Stone, Inscription Tools, a Ritual Diviner, and a Weak Activation Crystal, you can begin placing and activating Tier 1 rituals. The Hidden Realm ritual is the perfect starting point — it grants access to a dungeon dimension where you can collect Tau Fruit, an essential alchemy ingredient. Once home, plant and farm Tau Fruit using passive mobs to produce Saturated Tau, and you’ll be well-equipped to advance further into Blood Magic.
